Wadie Haddad (; 1927 – 28 March 1978), also known by the kunya Abu Hani (), was a Palestinian militant and leading figure of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP). He organized several hijackings of international civilian passenger aircraft in the 1960s and 1970s, the most infamous of which was the Entebbe hijacking, when Palestinian and German militants under his command held 106 hostagesprimarily Israeli Jews, although four non-Israeli Jews were also held captiveon a flight from Israel to France after diverting it to Entebbe, Uganda. Early life and education Haddad was born into a family of Palestinian Christians ( Greek Orthodox) in the city of Safed in 1927. Wadie Jwaideh
Wadie Elias Jwaideh (1 July 1916 – 9 March 2001) was an Iraqi American professor of history known for his work on the Kurds. Biography Jwaideh was born in the southern Iraqi city of Basra, into an Arabic-speaking Christian family that later moved to Baghdad. In 1942 he received a Licentiate in Law from the University of Baghdad and in 1960 a Ph.D. from Syracuse University's Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. During this time, he also held a lecturer position in Arabic at Johns Hopkins University. After graduating he joined the faculty of Indiana University as a history professor, where he founded the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Literature. He retired in 1985 and moved to San Diego where he was an adjunct professor of history at the University of California, San Diego until 1990. Nouhad Wadie Haddad (, ; born November 20, 1934 or November 21, 1935), known as Fairuz (, ), is a Lebanese singer. She is widely considered an iconic vocalist and one of the most celebrated singers in the history of the Arab world. She is popularly known as "The Bird of the East", "The Cedar of Lebanon", "The Moon's Neighbor", and "The Voice of Lebanon", among others. Fairuz began her musical career as a teenager at the national radio station in Lebanon in the late 1940s as a chorus member. Her first major hit, "Itab", was released in 1952 and made her an instant star in the Arab world. In the summer of 1957, Fairuz held her first live performance at the Baalbeck International Festival where she was awarded with the honor of "Cavalier", the highest medal for artistic achievement by Lebanese president Camille Chamoun.
