Wadi Seidna
Wadi Seidna (), also spelled Wadi Sayyidna, is a wadi located in north of Omdurman, in Khartoum state, Sudan. It is notable for its association with the Sudanese Military Academy and Wadi Seidna Air Base, which has been a subject of rescue missions and operations, including those carried out by the Indian Air Force to evacuate personnel during the 2023 war in Sudan. The land around Wadi Seidna is flat, and is covered in the lower east. The highest place in the area has an altitude of 434 meters and is 2.5 km south of Wadi Seidna. Khartoum State () is one of the eighteen states of Sudan. Although it is the smallest state by area (22,142 km2), it is the most populous state in Sudan—5,274,321 in the 2008 census, and officially estimated at 7,993,900 in 2018. Omdurman () is a major city in Sudan. It is the second most populous city in the country, located in the State of Khartoum. Wadi
Wadi ( ; ) is a river valley or a wet (ephemerality, ephemeral) Stream bed, riverbed that contains water only when heavy rain occurs. Wadis are located on gently sloping, nearly flat parts of deserts; commonly they begin on the distal portions of alluvial fans and extend to inland sabkhas or dry lakes. Permanent channels do not exist, due to lack of continual water flow. Water percolates down into the stream bed, causing an abrupt loss of energy and resulting in vast deposition. Wadis may develop dams of sediment that change the stream patterns in the next flash flood. Sudanese Military Academy
Sudanese Military Academy () is one of the Military academy, military colleges in Sudan and the first military college established in Africa. The Military College at Wadi Sayyidna, near Omdurman, has been Sudan's primary source of officer training since it opened in 1948. The Military College is also known as "the factory of men and the den of heroes" (). It offers a two-year program with emphasises on the study of political and military science, as well as physical training. Upon completion of the program, graduates are commissioned as Second lieutenant, second lieutenants in the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF). Wadi Seidna Air Base () is a military airport north of Khartoum in Sudan. After the Sudan conflict began, the French Special Forces, the U.K. Royal Air Force, the German Luftwaffe, the Royal Netherlands Air Force and the Spanish Air and Space Force began evacuating civilians through the airbase. History The air base's history goes back to World War II. The U.S. Army Air Forces' 46th Ferrying Squadron, Air Transport Command, was activated at the base on 2 December 1942. The squadron was assigned to the 13th Ferrying Group which was responsible for a region spanning El Geneine, Anglo-Egyptian Sudan, now in West Darfur, to Karachi, British India (now Pakistan), and from Cairo, Egypt, to Tehran, Iran.
