Wada (house)
Wada is a type of dwelling found in Maharashtra, western India. ''Wada'' is a Marathi language, Marathi word for denoting a large mansion. The term, in all probability, is derived from the ''Sanskrit'' word ''Vata'', meaning a plot or a piece of land meant for a house. Over time it came to denote the house built on that plot. ''Wadi'', an extended meaning of wada, denotes a cluster of huts. Typically, wada refers to a house with courtyards found in Maharashtra and surrounding regions in India. Origin The courtyard houses developed in medieval India and were prevalent all over the sub-continent, varying regionally, under different names. They were called ''Wada'' in Maharastra (western India), ''Haveli'' in Rajasthan (North India), ''Deori'' in Hyderabad State, Hyderabad (southern Indian plateau), ''Nalukettu'' in Kerala (southernmost coastal India), and ''Rajbadi'' in Bengal (east India). In Maharashtra, the w''ada'' house form received patronage from the Maratha Empire, Marath ...

Wada Test
The Wada test, also known as the intracarotid sodium amobarbital procedure (ISAP) or Wada-Milner Test, establishes cerebral language and memory representation of each hemisphere. Method Medical professionals conduct the test with the patient awake. A barbiturate, usually sodium amobarbital, is introduced into one of the internal carotid arteries via a cannula or intra-arterial catheter from the femoral artery. The drug is injected into one hemisphere at a time through the right or left internal carotid artery. If the right carotid is injected, the right side of the brain is inhibited and cannot communicate with the left side. The effect shuts down any language and/or memory function in that hemisphere in order to evaluate the other hemisphere. An EEG recording at the same time confirms that the injected side of the brain is inactive as a neurologist performs a neurological examination. The neurologist engages the patient in a series of language and memory related tests. They ev ...

Vada (food)
Vada, vadai, wada, bara, or bora is a category of savoury fried snacks native to India. Vadas can be described variously as fritters, cutlets, or dumplings. Vadas are sometimes stuffed with vegetables and traditionally served with chutneys and sambar. In North India and Pakistan, Bhalla is a similar food. It is sold in chaat shops and kiosks; Green bean paste is added with spices, which is then deep fried to make croquets. They are then garnished with dahi (yogurt), Saunth chutney (dried ginger and tamarind sauce) and spices. Bhalla is usually served cold, unlike the Aloo Tikki. The various types of vadas are made from different ingredients, ranging from legumes (such as medu vada of South India) to potatoes (such as batata vada of Maharashtra). They are often served as a breakfast item or a snack, and also used in other food preparations (such as dahi vada, vada pav, and doubles). History According to K. T. Achaya, Vadai (Vada) finds mention in Sangam litera ...

Wade (folklore)
Wade ( ) is the English name for a common Germanic mythological character who, depending on location, is also known as Vadi (Norse) and Wate (Middle High German). Overview The earliest mention occurs in the Old English poem ''Widsith''. According to the '' Þiðrekssaga'', he was born between king Wilkinus and a serpent-legged mermaid named Wachilt, a goddess of the sea and sometimes referred to as a "sea witch". His famous son is Wayland, and his grandson Wudga. Though not explicitly given as such, Egil and Slagfin may be Wade's sons, since they are Wayland's brothers according to the Poetic Edda. The medieval English romance about Wade once existed, for Chaucer alluded to the "Tale of Wade" in one of his works, ''Troilus and Criseyde'',''Troilus and Criseyde'': "With sobre chere, although his herte pleyde: / And in the feld he pleyde tho leoun; / He song; she pleyde; he tolde tale of Wade. / But natheles, he japed thus, and pleyde, / And on the walles of the town they pleyde, ...
