WZTE is a broadcast radio station licensed to Union City, Pennsylvania, serving Erie County, Crawford County, and Warren County in Pennsylvania and Chautauqua County in New York. WZTE is owned and operated by Inspiration Time, Inc., with headquarters in Waterford, Pennsylvania. History The station first signed on the air as WHYP on September 5, 1966, founded by James D. Brownyard. It was joined less than two years later by its like-named sister station, WHYP-FM (now WRKT), operating at 100.9. Like many co-owned FM stations of the era, it simulcast its AM sister during the daytime and provided local radio service after the AM station left the air after local sunset. Those hours of operation continue today for WZTE, as AM 1530 is a clear channel reserved for WCKY at night. WCTL
WCTL is a Christian radio station on 106.3 FM in Erie, Pennsylvania. The station is owned and operated by Inspiration Time, Inc. History The 106.3 license began operations as WBVB, licensed to Union City, on April 23, 1967. The call letters came from the original owners, William E. Baker and Virgil A. Brown. The four-month-old FM outlet would go through a major transformation when a group of 21 Christian businessmen and pastors, organized as Inspiration Time, Inc., became a part-owner of the Bee Bee Broadcasting Company on October 3, 1967 (with FCC approval obtained in early 1968); when Inspiration Time bought the station outright in 1971, it changed the call letters to the present WCTL on February 1, 1972; a power increase from 435 to 3,000 watts followed that April. WRKT's studios are located in the Boston Store building in downtown Erie while its transmitter is located near NE Sherman Road and Miller Road in Chautauqua County, New York. Union City is a borough in Erie County, Pennsylvania. It is located southeast of Erie. In the twentieth century, there were three large chair factories, planing and grist mills, a powdered milk plant, and several furniture factories. The population was 2,934 at the 2020 census. Stunting is a type of publicity stunt in radio broadcasting, where a station—abruptly and often without advance announcement—begins to air content that is seemingly uncharacteristic compared to what is normally played. Stunting is typically used to generate publicity and audience attention for upcoming changes to a station's programming, such as new branding, format, or as a soft launch for a newly-established station. Occasionally, a stunt may be purely intended as publicity or a protest, and not actually result in a major programming change. Stunts often involve a loop of a single song, or an interim format (such as the discography of a specific artist, Christmas music, a specific theme, or novelty songs), which may sometimes include hints towards the station's new format or branding. Mercyhurst North East
Mercyhurst North East was a two-year Catholic liberal arts college in North East, Pennsylvania. It was a branch campus of Mercyhurst University. The college was established in 1991 when Mercyhurst College purchased the former home of the Redemptorist Fathers, a seminary built in 1868. Mercyhurst North East offers one-year certificates and two-year associate degrees in a variety of majors. The school campus closed at the end of the 2020–2021 term, consolidating all programs into the larger Mercyhurst campus in Erie. As of the 2009–2010 academic year, the school enrolled more than 1,060 students, both resident and commuter.
