WXCX (105.7 FM) is a radio station licensed to Siren, Wisconsin. WXCX transmits with 6 kW at 100 meters (class A) from a tower in central Burnett County. The station broadcasts a classic country format. It is owned by Zoe Communications, Inc. and has studios in Shell Lake, Wisconsin. History 105.7 was originally assigned the call letters WBEP, which were never used on the air. Casey Communications began test broadcasts of WXCX on December 28, 1999, simulcasting sister station WWLC in Balsam Lake, Wisconsin (now WZEZ). At the time, Pine City Broadcasting, owner of WCMP and WCMP-FM in Pine City, Minnesota, operated WWLC and WXCX through a local marketing agreement. Pine City, Minnesota
Pine City is a city in and the county seat of Pine County, in east central Minnesota, United States. The population was 3,130 at the 2020 census. A portion of the city is located on the Mille Lacs Indian Reservation. Founded as a railway town, it quickly became a logging community and the surrounding lakes made it a resort town. Today, it exists in part as a commuter town to jobs in the Minneapolis–Saint Paul metropolitan area. History The Dakota Indians were the first in the area. Siren, Wisconsin
Siren is a village in, and the county seat of, Burnett County in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 806 at the 2010 census. The village is surrounded by the Town of Siren. History The Ojibwe and the French fur traders were the principal inhabitants of the region in the early 1800s. Swedish immigrants began settling in the area around what is now Siren in the 1880s. Many of them were members of the Evangelical Covenant Church. The first post office was built in 1895 about a mile west of its present location. The first postmaster was Charles F. Segerstrom, who had the post office in his home. His home was surrounded by lilacs, which are quite abundant in the area. Segerstrom applied with the postal department for a name for the place, choosing "Syren", Swedish for "lilac." In North American broadcasting, a local marketing agreement (LMA), or local management agreement, is a contract in which one company agrees to operate a radio or television station owned by another party. In essence, it is a sort of lease or time-buy. Under Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations, a local marketing agreement must give the company operating the station (the "senior" partner) under the agreement control over the entire facilities of the station, including the finances, personnel and programming of the station.
