WWWH (1230 AM broadcasting, AM) was a 1,000-watt radio station licensed to serve the city of license, community of Haleyville, Alabama, United States. The station, established in 1949 as WJBB, was owned by AMS Radio, LLC. It last broadcast a news radio, news/talk radio format to Winston County, Alabama, Winston, Marion County, Alabama, Marion and Franklin County, Alabama, Franklin counties. History This station was assigned call sign WJBB in 1949 by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and began operating with just 250 watts of power. From 1951 though November 2011, the station was owned by the Slatton family. John Lewis Slatton was the president of The Haleyville Broadcasting Company, Inc., and general manager of WJBB (1230 AM) and its sister station WSHF (FM), WJBB-FM (92.7) until his death in 2008. Haleyville, Alabama
Haleyville is a city in Winston and Marion counties in the U.S. state of Alabama. It incorporated on February 28, 1889. Most of the city is located in Winston County, with a small portion of the western limits entering Marion County. Haleyville was originally named "Davis Cross Roads", having been established at the crossroads of Byler Road and the Illinois Central Railroad. At the 2020 census the population was 4,361, up from 4,173 at the 2010 census. History The first Guthrie's restaurant was opened by Hal Guthrie in Haleyville in 1965. On February 16, 1968, the first 9-1-1 emergency telephone system in the nation went into service in Haleyville. Nielsen Audio (formerly Arbitron) is a consumer research company in the United States that collects listener data on radio broadcasting audiences. It was founded as the American Research Bureau by Jim Seiler in 1949 and became national by merging with Los Angeles-based Coffin, Cooper, and Clay in the early 1950s. The company's initial business was the collection of broadcast television ratings. The company changed its name to Arbitron in the mid‑1960s, the namesake of the Arbitron System, a centralized statistical computer with leased lines to viewers' homes to monitor their activity. James Everett Bohannon (January 7, 1944 – November 12, 2022) was an American broadcaster who worked in both television and radio. He is best known for hosting the nationally syndicated late night radio talk show ''The Jim Bohannon Show'' originally broadcast on the Mutual Broadcasting System and later the Westwood One Network from 1985 to 2022. For 31 years, he also hosted '' America in The Morning'', a nationally syndicated radio news show, stepping down in December 2015.
