WVOI (AM)
WVOI (1480 AM) was a radio station that broadcast a Catholic music and talk format. Licensed to serve Marco Island, Florida, United States, the station was last owned by Relevant Radio, Inc. It broadcast between 1975 and 2020 and was the first radio station on Marco Island. History The station went on the air as WRGI in January 1975 as Marco Island's first radio station. It was owned by Collier Broadcasting Company and aired a contemporary hit radio format. In 1978, WRGI became WMIB (promoted as "Wonderful Music Is Back") and changed to a big band music format, playing music of the 1930s and 1940s. Arkelian Broadcasting acquired WMIB from Collier in 1983; after a brief stint as WWWO from 1984 to 1985, Arkelian sold it to Teiwes Broadcasting at the end of 1986. Teiwes sold WMIB, which had gone silent, to WCOO general manager Terry Lee Trunzo's Marco Island Broadcasting for $70,000 in 1992. Marco Island is a city and barrier island in Collier County, Florida, south of Naples on the Gulf Coast of the United States. It is the largest barrier island in Southwest Florida's Ten Thousand Islands area, which extends southerly to Cape Sable. Marco Island is home to an affluent beach community with resort amenities. Marco Island is a principal city of the Naples–Marco Island Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 15,760 at the 2020 census, down from 16,413 at the 2010 census. WMVX (1110 Hertz, kHz; "Valley 98.9") is an AM radio station broadcasting a classic hits format. Established in 1977 as WVNH, the station is licensed to serve Salem, New Hampshire, United States, and is owned by Costa-Eagle Radio Ventures Limited Partnership, a partnership between Pat Costa and his chief investor, ''The Eagle-Tribune''. The station's programming is also heard on translator station W255DA (98.9 FM broadcasting, FM) in Salem. The extended mediumwave broadcast band, commonly known as the AM expanded band, refers to the broadcast station frequency assignments immediately above the earlier upper limits of 1600 kHz in International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Region 2 (the Americas), and 1602 kHz in ITU Regions 1 (Europe, northern Asia and Africa) and 3 (southern Asia and Oceania). In Region 2, this consists of ten additional frequencies, spaced 10 kHz apart, and running from 1610 kHz to 1700 kHz. In Regions 1 and 3, where frequency assignments are spaced 9 kHz apart, the result is eleven additional frequencies, from 1611 kHz to 1701 kHz.
