WUVI-LP
WUVI (1090 AM) was a radio station licensed to serve Charlotte Amalie, U.S. Virgin Islands. The station was owned by Three Angels Corporation and leased to the University of the Virgin Islands. Its license was cancelled September 23, 2019. The station aired a College radio format using student on-air talent from the university's radio program. News programming from Pacifica Radio was also broadcast. History This station received its original construction permit from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on August 28, 1985. The new station was assigned the call letters WIBS by the FCC on October 2, 1985. WIBS received its license to cover from the FCC on November 7, 1988. In February 1989, Raphael A. Figueroa and Lucy E. Figueroa (doing business as Saint Thomas Broadcasters) reached an agreement to sell this station to Three Angels Corporation. In broadcasting and radio communications, a call sign (also known as a call name or call letters—and historically as a call signal—or abbreviated as a call) is a unique identifier for a transmitter station. A call sign can be formally assigned by a government agency, informally adopted by individuals or organizations, or even cryptographically encoded to disguise a station's identity. The use of call signs as unique identifiers dates to the landline railroad telegraph system. WIGT (1690 AM) is a currently silent Charlotte Amalie, U.S. Virgin Islands non-commercial radio station, owned by El Logos, Inc. History WIGT originated as the expanded band "twin" of an existing station on the standard AM band. The extended mediumwave broadcast band, commonly known as the AM expanded band, refers to the broadcast station frequency assignments immediately above the earlier upper limits of 1600 kHz in International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Region 2 (the Americas), and 1602 kHz in ITU Regions 1 (Europe, northern Asia and Africa) and 3 (southern Asia and Oceania). In Region 2, this consists of ten additional frequencies, spaced 10 kHz apart, and running from 1610 kHz to 1700 kHz. In Regions 1 and 3, where frequency assignments are spaced 9 kHz apart, the result is eleven additional frequencies, from 1611 kHz to 1701 kHz.
