WTTL (1310 AM, "Classic Hits 103.5") is a radio station broadcasting a classic hits format. Licensed to Madisonville, Kentucky, United States. The station is currently owned by Madisonville CBC, Inc. History The station signed on for the first time in 1956 under ownership of Hopkins County Broadcasting. The station was acquired by local businessman Conway Smith in 1958. The station was broadcasting a rock format for many years until it switched to an adult contemporary format around 1982. The station's programming was simulcast over WTTL-FM (106.9 MHz) for a few years since its September 1992 launch until it became a separate entity in 1995. WTTL, along with seven other stations, was purchased by Commonwealth Broadcasting Corporation in 1997. Madisonville, Kentucky
Madisonville is a home rule-class city in and the county seat of Hopkins County, Kentucky, United States, located along Interstate 69 in the state's Western Coal Fields region. The population was 19,591 at the 2010 census. Madisonville is a commercial center of the region and is home to Madisonville Community College. History Madisonville was founded in 1807 and named for then- Secretary of State James Madison. It was named the seat of Hopkins County in 1808 and formally incorporated in 1810. Hopkins County and Madisonville were divided by the Civil War. Union supporters joined a regiment recruited locally by James Shackleford; Al Fowler recruited Confederate troops. The courthouse in Madisonville was burned by Confederates led by Gen. Hylan B. Lyon on December 17, 1864, as they passed through western Kentucky. Classic hits is a radio format which generally includes songs from the top 40 music charts from the late 1960s to the early 2000s, with music from the 1980s serving as the core of the format. Music that was popularized by MTV in the early 1980s and the nostalgia behind it is a major driver to the format.
