WTKI (1450 AM, "Easy 105.3") is a radio station licensed to serve Huntsville, Alabama, United States. The station is owned by Southern Broadcasting LLC, doing business as "Easy 105.3". Its studios are located in Madison and transmitter facility located just west of downtown Huntsville. In November 2009, FRC began operating WTKI under a local marketing agreement, broadcasting a combined news/talk/sports format. Some programming is provided by Fox Sports Radio and Fox Business Network. In 2010, the station broadcast 85 Southern League baseball games as the flagship station of the Huntsville Stars Radio Network. The network also included then-sister station WIEZ in Decatur, as well as WWIC in Scottsboro. The Stars discontinued play in Huntsville in 2015, moving to Biloxi, Mississippi as the Shuckers. WIEZ (AM)
WIEZ (1490 AM) is an American radio station licensed to Decatur, Alabama that serves the western Huntsville, Alabama, market. The station airs a rhythmic contemporary format. WIEZ carries Austin High School football on Friday evenings during the fall. History During the early 1960s to the early 1990s, WAJF was the call sign and the format was mostly top 40. Its main competition during much of that time was WMSL (now WWTM), also in Decatur. There were several local legends that worked there, including Hamilton Masters, George "The Cardboard" Carden, "Bill and Dave," Thom Collins, and others. WAJF also carried the ''CBS Radio Mystery Theater'' each weeknight at midnight during the 1970s. With FM radio becoming more and more popular, AM stations began to suffer. In broadcasting and radio communications, a call sign (also known as a call name or call letters—and historically as a call signal—or abbreviated as a call) is a unique identifier for a transmitter station. A call sign can be formally assigned by a government agency, informally adopted by individuals or organizations, or even cryptographically encoded to disguise a station's identity. Central Hockey League
The Central Hockey League (CHL) was a North American mid-level minor professional ice hockey league which operated from 1992 until 2014. It was founded by Ray Miron and Bill Levins and later sold to Global Entertainment Corporation, which operated the league from 2000 to 2013, at which point it was purchased by the individual franchise owners. As of the end of its final season in 2014, three of the 30 National Hockey League teams had affiliations with the CHL: the Dallas Stars, Minnesota Wild, and Tampa Bay Lightning. Huntsville Channel Cats
The Huntsville Channel Cats was a professional ice hockey team based in Huntsville, Alabama. The franchise was a member of several different leagues, the Southern Hockey League (1995–1996), the Central Hockey League (1996–2001) and the South East Hockey League (2003–2004). They played their home games at Von Braun Center Arena in downtown Huntsville. Early years (1995–1999) In 1995, two doctors in Knoxville, Tennessee, John Staley and John Minchey, created a new hockey franchise in Huntsville to join the newly expanded Southern Hockey League. Rocket City Trash Pandas
The Rocket City Trash Pandas are a Minor League Baseball team of the Southern League and the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels. They are located in Madison, Alabama, and play their home games at Toyota Field. History In November 2017, BallCorps LLC purchased the Southern League's Mobile BayBears from owners Michael Savit and HWS Group for the purpose of relocating the team to Madison, Alabama, in 2020. Upon relocation, the team was renamed the Rocket City Trash Pandas. Biloxi Shuckers
The Biloxi Shuckers are a Minor League Baseball team of the Southern League and the Double-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. They are located in Biloxi, Mississippi, and are named in reference to the city's oyster industry and seafood heritage. The Shuckers play their home games at MGM Park. The team began play in 2015 after the Southern League's Huntsville Stars relocated to Biloxi following the 2014 season. Biloxi ( ; ) is a city in and one of two county seats of Harrison County, Mississippi, United States (the other being the adjacent city of Gulfport).
