WSKZ (106.5 FM) is a commercial radio station in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The station operates under a classic rock format and is branded as KZ106. The station is one of four stations operating in the Chattanooga broadcast area by Cumulus Media. Its studios are located on Pineville Road in Chattanooga, and its transmitter is located in Signal Mountain. History The station became WSKZ in August 1978, which they were formerly co-owned with their nearby AM station WGOW during its early years but by 1981 the station became a Top 40/CHR format in which WSKZ is the only FM radio station in Chattanooga that broadcast a fully-fledged Top 40/CHR station. But beginning in 1985, unlike most Top 40 stations, WSKZ began fledging into a similar "Rock-40" format lean (similar to KEGL in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex in Texas). WBDX (102.7 FM) is a radio station broadcasting a Contemporary Christian format and operating under the brand of J103. Licensed to Trenton, Georgia, United States, the station serves the Chattanooga, Tennessee area. The station is owned by Partners For Christian Media, Inc and is the Tennessee Valley's only local Contemporary Christian music station. WJLJ (103.1 FM), licensed to Etowah, Tennessee, airs the same programming. WGOW (1150 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station in Chattanooga, Tennessee. It is owned by Cumulus Media, and broadcasts a talk radio format. Cumulus also owns 102.3 WGOW-FM, which simulcasts some shows shared with 1150 WGOW, but has its own schedule most of the day. The radio studios and offices are on Pineville Drive in Chattanooga. By day, WGOW transmits with 5,000 watts non-directional, but at night, to avoid interfering with other stations on 1150 AM, WGOW reduces power to 1,000 watts and uses a directional antenna with a three-tower array. The transmitter is on Daugherty Lane in Chattanooga's Moccasin Bend neighborhood, near the Tennessee River. Signal Mountain is a town in Hamilton County, Tennessee, United States. The town is a suburb of Chattanooga and is located on Walden Ridge. "Signal Mountain" is used as a colloquial name for the part of Walden Ridge close to the town. The town population was 8,852 as of the 2020 census and estimated to be 8,567 in 2018.
