WRSV (92.1 MHz) is a commercial FM radio station licensed to Elm City, North Carolina. It is owned by Northstar Broadcasting and airs a Mainstream urban radio format. WRSV uses the branding "Choice FM" and carries the nationally syndicated '' Breakfast Club'' in the mornings. History WRSV, owned by Northstar Broadcasting, is an African-American family owned Broadcast station. It was started by the late William Avera Wynne, passed to his son William "Billy" Wynne, Jr. and later sold to the station's General Manager Charles O. Johnson, as a result of the great relationship between Wynne and Johnson. William Avera Wynne, Sr. started WEED radio in 1933, later adding an FM station. WEED (AM)
WEED (1390 kHz) is an AM radio station broadcasting a gospel music format. Licensed to Rocky Mount, North Carolina, United States, it serves the Rocky Mount/ Wilson area. The station is owned by Northstar Broadcasting Corporation. History WEED signed on in Greenville, North Carolina, in 1933, owned by the Wynne family. After moving to Rocky Mount, WEED added an FM station which later became WRSV. Bill Wynne took over the stations from his father and ran them until Charles and Sarah Johnson bought WEED in 1988. Sarah Johnson remained as head of Northstar Broadcasting after her husband's death. In 1994, WEED began a four-hour Spanish language program called ''La Pantera''. Elm City is a town in Nash and Wilson County, United States. The population was 1,298 in 2010. It is a suburb of Wilson, North Carolina. Elm City elected its first Black female mayor in its November 2021 municipal elections. History The Elm City Municipal Historic District, W. H. Langley House, and Webb-Barron-Wells House were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. In the summer of 1964, the Ku Klux Klan drove away a group of black and white teenage volunteers repainting the local First Presbyterian Church. Subsequently, adult volunteers returned to finish the job, and Governor Terry Sanford dispatched state troopers to protect the team of integrated volunteers.
