WQNQ (104.3 FM) is a United States radio station serving the Asheville, North Carolina area. The station currently has a Top 40 (CHR) music format and is owned by iHeartMedia, Inc. The station is known on the air as "Star 104.3." WQNQ is licensed to Fletcher, North Carolina outside Asheville. The station broadcasts at an effective radiated power of 470 watts from a transmitter located 349 meters (1,145 feet) above the average surrounding terrain. History 104.3 signed on as WDLF in Old Fort, North Carolina in October, 1991 with a soft adult contemporary format known as "Delightful 104". WQNS
WQNS (105.1 FM broadcasting, FM, "Rock 105.1") is a mainstream rock radio station in Asheville, North Carolina. History WQNS signed on in 1979 at 104.9 FM as WQNS-FM (WQNS stood for...Waynesville's Quiet New Sound) and played easy listening music. When the station sold, it turned country and was branded Q-105 "Always Your Country". In 1990, WQNS/WMXF, WHCC owner KAT Communications of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina filed for Chapter 11, but the stations were doing well and no changes were planned. On October 28, 1997, the format changed to Classic rock and country music moved to WHCC (now WMXF). On September 20, 1999, WQNS was paired with WQNQ (formerly hot adult contemporary WMXF), and the two stations became "Rock 104". Clear Channel bought the three stations in 2001. WKSF (99.9 FM "Kiss Country") is a country music station licensed to serve Old Fort, North Carolina. The iHeartMedia, Inc. station broadcasts from a tower on Mount Pisgah, southwest of Asheville with an ERP of 53,000 watts. The tower is shared with former sister station WLOS (ABC). History This station originally launched by Skyway Broadcasting Corporation in 1947 as WLOS-FM, and simulcasted its AM sister station (today's WKJV) before adopting an individual format of beautiful music by the mid-1960s. Skyway sold WLOS-AM-FM and its sister TV outlet to Wometco Enterprises in 1958. WMXF (1400 AM), known as "ESPN Asheville", is a sports radio station licensed to Waynesville, North Carolina which mostly airs the programming of WPEK in Asheville. History WHCC was the only radio station in Waynesville for many years. It went on the air with a formal opening September 10, 1947, operating on 1400 kHz with 250 watts of power. The station was licensed to Smoky Mountain Broadcasters, of which W. Curtiss Russ was president. In the 1980s the format was adult contemporary. Later formats included oldies and Country. WOXL-FM (known on-air as Mix 96.5 FM) is a radio station licensed to Biltmore Forest, North Carolina, United States, the station serves the Asheville area and broadcasts a hot adult contemporary music format. The station is currently owned by the Asheville Radio Group subsidiary of Saga Communications. Station history In August 1987, the FCC allocated a new frequency, 96.5 FM, to the town of Biltmore Forest, near Asheville. Thirteen applicants filed during the filing window. One of the applicants was Orion Broadcasting, a small family-owned company headed up by Zeb Lee. WWNC (570 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station in Asheville, North Carolina. It broadcasts a Talk radio format and is owned by iHeartMedia, Inc. The studios and transmitter are on Summerlin Road in Ashville. WWNC is powered at 5,000 watts. By day, it is non-directional. Fletcher, North Carolina
Fletcher is a town in Henderson County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 7,187 at the 2010 census, and was estimated to be 8,333 in 2018. Fletcher is adjacent to Asheville Regional Airport, which serves western North Carolina. It is part of the Asheville Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Fletcher was first settled in 1795 when Samuel Murray decided to move his family to the mountains of western North Carolina.
