WQLN-FM (91.3 FM, "Q-91.3 FM") is a National Public Radio member station that serves the Erie, Pennsylvania, area of the United States. WQLN (channel 54) is a PBS member television station in Erie, Pennsylvania, United States, owned by Public Broadcasting of Northwest Pennsylvania, Inc. Its studios and transmitter are located in Summit Township, south of the Erie city limits (but with an Erie mailing address). In addition to its local viewership in Northwestern Pennsylvania and portions of nearby Ohio and New York State, WQLN is also seen in the London, Ontario area on Rogers Cable channel 8, and on other cable systems in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. History Groundwork for an educational television station in northwest Pennsylvania was laid in 1953 with the founding of Educational Television of Erie. Summit Township is a township in Erie County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 7,354 at the 2020 census, up from 6,603 at the 2010 census. Geography The township is in central Erie County and sits on the high ground separating the streams flowing north and west into Lake Erie, part of the St. Lawrence River watershed, from those flowing south towards the Mississippi River and the Gulf of Mexico. Walnut Creek, which flows west through Millcreek and Fairview townships to Lake Erie, rises near the eastern border of the township, while LeBoeuf Creek forms less than one mile to the west, flowing south to French Creek, a tributary of the Allegheny River, and thus to the Ohio and Mississippi as well. WFXP
WFXP (channel 66) is a television station in Erie, Pennsylvania, United States, affiliated with the Fox network. It is owned by Mission Broadcasting, which maintains a local marketing agreement (LMA) with Nexstar Media Group, owner of ABC affiliate WJET-TV (channel 24), for the provision of certain services. The two stations share studios on US 19/Peach Street in Summit Township (with an Erie mailing address), where WFXP's transmitter is also located. WFXP began broadcasting in 1986 as WETG, owned by Gannon University, a Catholic university in Erie. It gradually became a more typical commercial independent in its early years of operation and affiliated with Fox in April 1990. The growth of Fox led to new affiliate requirements that saw Gannon sell the station to private owners.
