WPLG (channel 10) is a television station in Miami, Florida, United States, affiliated with ABC. The station is owned by Berkshire Hathaway as its sole broadcast property. WPLG's studios are located on West Hallandale Beach Boulevard in Pembroke Park, and its transmitter is located in Miami Gardens, Florida. WPLG signed on the air as WLBW-TV on November 20, 1961, as the replacement for WPST-TV, which was forced off the air by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) following the revelation of bribery undertaken with one of the commissioners to secure that station's license. L. B. Wilson, Inc., was found to be the only bidder for the original channel 10 license not to have engaged in coercive action, and was thus awarded a temporary permit to begin telecasting. WSVN (channel 7) is a television station in Miami, Florida, United States, affiliated with the Fox network. Serving as the flagship station of locally based Sunbeam Television, it has studios on the 79th Street Causeway in North Bay Village and a transmitter in Miami Gardens, Florida. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regards WSVN as having signed on for the first time on December 19, 1962, as WCKT under Sunbeam ownership. However, the station was the result of a long and contentious legal battle between Sunbeam and three other applicants for the channel 7 allocation in Miami. Ann Bishop (journalist)
Ann Bishop (December 26, 1930 – November 14, 1997) was a broadcast journalist in Rochester, New York, Baltimore, Maryland, and South Florida. Career Ann Bishop (born: Harriette Himes) began her career writing for the CBS affiliate in upstate New York. She went on to work as a reporter for stations in Rochester and Baltimore. She accepted a position with WPLG Channel 10 in 1970. She was the first female broadcaster in a major market (Miami) to co-anchor the early and late evening news. From 1976 until 1982, Bishop anchored the news alongside Glenn Rinker, Chuck Dowdle, and Walter Cronise. In 1982, Glenn Rinker left WPLG, and was replaced by Mike Schneider. WPST-TV (channel 10) was a television station in Miami, Florida, United States, for four years, from 1957 to 1961. Launched as the third commercially licensed very high frequency (VHF) station in Miami and the market's second American Broadcasting Company (ABC) affiliate after WITV (Florida), WITV (channel 17), it was owned by Public Service Television, Inc., the broadcasting subsidiary of Miami-based National Airlines (1934–1980), National Airlines (NAL), and managed by NAL founder/CEO George T. Michael Putney (born December 16, 1940, in New York City) is a senior political television reporter and columnist, based in Miami, Florida, United States. Putney is the winner of two Emmy Awards. He served as publisher and later co-owner of ''The Washington Post'' and its parent company, The Washington Post Company.
