WPCX-LP
WPCX-LP is an FM college radio station run by students of Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina. The station is broadcast from the Thomason Library on the college's campus. The radio station relies on volunteers from the student body, college staff, and faculty to DJ in one-hour blocks. Though the station has only been transmitting radio waves for a few years, its history dates back further when the broadcasts would air on an on-campus cable television channel. Began in 1990 as "Radio Free PC", a four-hour broadcast on WPCC 1410AM, the operation moved to the basement of the library in 1992 to operate on the campus cable TV. The campus-cable operation kept the name "Radio Free PC" and began an expanded nightly four-hour broadcast from 8 pm to midnight. As a registered student organization, or RSO, WPCX has a faculty member as an advisor. Clinton, South Carolina
Clinton is a city in Laurens County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 8,490 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Greenville– Mauldin–Easley Metropolitan Statistical Area. Clinton is the home of Presbyterian College. History The Cherokee Indians were Clinton's original inhabitants. The first settler to inhabit the area was John Duncan, a native of Aberdeen, Scotland, who arrived in 1752 from Pennsylvania and settled along a creek between the present-day towns of Clinton and Whitmire. Scots-Irish immigrants from Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia became the predominant settlers in the area in the two decades before the American Revolutionary War and took active part in a Revolutionary War battle in 1780 at nearby Musgrove Mill. As late as 1852, the town was called Five Points because it arose at the intersection of four major roads and the railroad. Presbyterian College
Presbyterian College (PC) is a private Presbyterian liberal arts college in Clinton, South Carolina. History Presbyterian College was founded in 1880 by the William Plumer Jacobs. He had served as the pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Clinton since 1864 and founded the Thornwell Orphanage. Originally called Clinton College, its first class (including three women) graduated in 1883. In establishing PC, his "tree of knowledge", Jacobs' goal was to educate young people for lives of service to church and society, and thereby be, in his words, "epistles to Christ's honor and glory". By the time of Jacobs' death in 1917, the college had grown considerably in size and resources, and had six major buildings. Neville Hall, PC's most recognized structure, was constructed in 1907.
