WNWN (98.5 MHz, "Win 98-5") is an FM radio station broadcasting a country music format. Licensed to Coldwater, Michigan with studios in Battle Creek, it first began broadcasting in 1950 under the WTVB-FM call sign at 98.3 on the FM dial and spent most of its early existence as a simulcast of sister station WTVB before changing to its current calls, format, and frequency. Win 98-5 is consistently one of the top-rated radio stations in the Battle Creek market. Coldwater, Michigan
Coldwater is a city in and county seat of Branch County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The city had a population of 13,822 at the 2020 census. The city is mostly surrounded by Coldwater Township, but the two are administered autonomously. History American settlers first moved into the area around 1830, with many arriving from New York and New England. Coldwater was incorporated as a village in 1837, and then incorporated by the legislature as a city in 1861. It was designated in 1842 as the county seat of Branch County. WTOU (1560 AM)
WTOU (1560 AM) was the call sign assigned from 2019 until 2020, and the last call sign used on the air, by a radio station licensed to Portage, Michigan. It last broadcast an urban adult contemporary format, provided by ABC Radio Networks ( The Touch, or "Today's R&B and Old School"). Owned by Midwest Communications, the station served the greater Kalamazoo, Michigan area. The station was assigned the call letters WQLR by the Federal Communications Commission on December 18, 2020, but its license was deleted without any broadcasts being made under the WQLR call letters. WTOU was also heard in Portage/Kalamazoo on FM translator 95.5 W238AL. Because the station was only licensed for daytime operation, the translator allowed "The Touch" programming to continue after WTOU signed off for the night. Portage, Michigan
Portage is a city in Kalamazoo County, Michigan, United States. The population was 48,891 at the 2020 census. It is the smaller of the two main cities included in the Kalamazoo-Portage Metropolitan Statistical Area, which had a population of 261,670 in 2020. History Portage was settled in 1830, and incorporated as a city in 1963. On May 7, 2024, the city was struck by a high-end EF2 tornado, causing significant damage to homes and properties. WTVB (1590 AM) is a regional radio station located in Coldwater, Michigan. It carries largely classic hits and local news and sports, with Westwood One as its source for national news, and carries Westwood One's Classic Hits Total format. Midwest Communications owns WTVB. The call letters originally stood for Twin Valley Broadcasters and are in no way connected to any television station, although the station bills itself as "The Voice of Branch County. The "valleys" mentioned (ironically Coldwater is in one of the highest parts of southern Lower Michigan) are apparently the short Coldwater River and the St. Joseph River in south-central Michigan.
