Celina ( ) is a city in Mercer County, Ohio, United States, and its county seat. The population was 10,935 at the 2020 census. Located about northwest of Dayton, Celina is situated on the northwestern shores of Grand Lake St. Marys. History James Watson Riley established Celina in 1834. The settlement was named after Salina, New York. By the 1880s, the town had grown significantly, primarily due to the discovery of deposits of oil and natural gas nearby. The town was hit by a deadly EF3 tornado on May 27, 2019. Numerous homes, building, trees, and power lines and poles were damaged or destroyed. One person was killed and eight others were injured. WDRK (106.5 FM) was a radio station in Greenville, Ohio, United States. It was last owned and operated by Lewel Broadcasting, Inc. The station operated for more than 25 years, much of the last decade in a fight with the Federal Communications Commission over the renewal of its broadcast license. History WDRK began broadcasting April 14, 1962. Originally owned by John D. Kennedy and Lewis Froikin under the name Kennedy Broadcasting, Inc., it was the first radio station in Darke County, broadcasting from studios at the intersection of State Route 49 and US 127. The owners bought FM station WMER in Celina in 1968. The name on the license was changed to Lewel Broadcasting in 1969; by this time, the station was run by general manager Lee Rutherford and program director Ron Rumley, both formerly of WIFE in Indianapolis. Transtar was the first radio network to provide 24-hour music programming to local affiliates. The slate of 24-hour networks is now owned by Westwood One and operated by Dial Global. WPTD (channel 16) is a television station in Dayton, Ohio, United States, serving the Miami Valley as a member of PBS. The station broadcasts from studios in downtown Dayton and a transmitter near South Gettysburg Avenue in the Highview Hills neighborhood in southwest Dayton. Its signal is relayed by translator station W25FI-D in Maplewood, Ohio, which broadcasts to Celina, Lima, and Wapakoneta.
