WJW (TV)
WJW (channel 8) is a television station in Cleveland, Ohio, United States, affiliated with the Fox network. It is owned by Nexstar Media Group alongside independent WBNX-TV (channel 55). The two stations share studios on Dick Goddard Way (previously South Marginal Road) northeast of downtown Cleveland; WJW's transmitter is located in suburban Parma, Ohio. WJW was the third television station to sign on in Cleveland as WXEL, the first station to be built by Herbert Mayer, founder of the Empire Coil Company. WXEL began on channel 9 on December 17, 1949, two years to the date of WEWS-TV's sign-on. Initially a DuMont affiliate with select ABC and CBS programs, WXEL placed an emphasis on locally produced programming, originally from their studios and transmitter site in Parma and later from a renovated former movie theatre in Playhouse Square. Woollybear Festival
The Woollybear Festival is held every Fall in downtown Vermilion, Ohio, on Lake Erie. The one-day, family event, which began in 1973, features a woolly bear costume contest in which children, even pets, are dressed up as various renditions of the woolly bear caterpillar. The festival is held every year around October 1 on a Sunday on which the Cleveland Browns either have an away game or are not playing. It is touted as the largest one-day festival in Ohio, with attendance over 100,000. Joel Daly
Joel Daly (August 21, 1934October 22, 2020) was an American news anchor, most known for serving as an anchor for WLS-TV (an ABC-affiliate) in Chicago, Illinois, for 38 years from 1967 to 2005. Daly served as co-anchor on the 4 pm news broadcast alongside Linda Yu from January 1985 until his retirement in May 2005. Daly was inducted into the Silver Circle, a group of elite Chicago broadcasters, in 2003. Following his retirement from news broadcasting in 2005, from March 2007 until October 2013, Daly served as spokesperson for Chicago's Cook County federal courthouse. Doug Adair
Doug Adair (May 29, 1929 – April 29, 2019) was an American television news anchor and journalist who worked in the Cleveland, Columbus, and Dayton, Ohio markets. Career Born in Xenia, Ohio, Adair got his start in journalism in television in Dayton in the early 1950s. In 1958 he moved to Cleveland and joined then-CBS-affiliated WJW-TV as a reporter and anchor. Starting in 1964, Adair was paired with Joel Daly and the duo co-anchored ''City Camera News'', the first two-man television newscast in Cleveland. ''City Camera News'' was notable for equipping reporters with Polaroid instant cameras, allowing them to take pictures that can be used on the air. The format was successful, and the Adair/Daly team anchored the most-watched newscast in Cleveland. ''Big Chuck and Lil' John'' were a duo of entertainers and horror hosts based in Cleveland, Ohio, United States, consisting of Charles Mitchell "Big Chuck" Schodowski (June 28, 1934 – January 19, 2025) and "Lil' John" Rinaldi (born January 19, 1946). They co-hosted a late-night program over Cleveland television station WJW (channel 8) from 1979 until 2007, but Schodowski's tenure at the station dated back to 1961, first as a technician, then as a sidekick for '' Ghoulardi'' (Ernie Anderson) and a co-host alongside Bob "Hoolihan" Wells. Ghoulardi was a fictional character created and portrayed by voice announcer, actor and disc jockey Ernie Anderson as the horror host of '' Shock Theater'' at WJW-TV, Channel 8 (a.k.a.
