WJLK (1160 kHz) is an AM radio station licensed to Lakewood Township, New Jersey, and broadcasting a hot adult contemporary format simulcast from WJLK-FM (94.3). The station is owned by Townsquare Media and serves the Monmouth County area. History The station signed on November 20, 1970, as a daytime-only operation on 1170 kHz, using the call letters WHLW (for Howell and Lakewood Townships). Early in its existence, it became a Top 40 station calling itself ''11-7 Radio'', featuring such disc jockeys as John Collure, Paul Irwin, Jack Tracksler, Charlie Roberts, Jay Sorensen, and Joey Reynolds. The station became WOBM in 1981, and in early 1988 moved to the 1160 frequency and became a 24-hour operation. WJLK-FM (94.3 FM; "The Point") is a commercial radio station licensed to Asbury Park, New Jersey, and serving Monmouth County, Northern Ocean County and Middlesex County. It broadcasts a hot adult contemporary format and is owned by Townsquare Media, along with sister stations WCHR-FM, WOBM, WOBM-FM, and WJLK. WJLK-FM has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 1,300 watts. Its transmitter is near Exit 100 along the Garden State Parkway in Tinton Falls, New Jersey. Good Time Oldies
Good Time Oldies is a 24-hour music format offered to local radio stations across the country that was originally produced by Jones Radio Networks. After the sales of Jones Radio Networks to Dial Global in 2008, the format was absorbed into D.G.`s "Kool Oldies" format. However, due to radio stations demand, the Good Time Oldies format was brought to Dial Global. The format was programmed by program director Jon Holiday from 1994 through 2003. Good Time Oldies targets a key demographic of white men age 50 to 64. The majority of the network's playlist is from the 1960s and 70s with scattered tunes from the 50s and 80s. Jones Radio Networks was purchased by Triton Media Group, and "Good Time Oldies" was merged to Dial Global's " Kool Gold" network and then quickly brought back as Good Time Oldies due to affiliate demand. America's Best Music is the on-air branding of a soft oldies and adult standards 24-hour radio network, formerly known as AM Only. The service is syndicated by Westwood One, a subsidiary of Cumulus Media. It was one of the original Transtar Radio Networks formats. Despite its old name of AM Only, "America's Best Music" is no longer exclusive to AM stations and is carried on some FM stations. Westwood One is an American radio network owned by Cumulus Media. The company syndicates talk, music, and sports programming. The company takes its name from an earlier network also named Westwood One, a company founded in 1978. The company was, at various times, managed by CBS Radio, the radio arm of CBS Corporation and Viacom. It was later purchased by the private equity firm The Gores Group before merging with Dial Global in 2011. In December 2013, Dial Global was, in turn, acquired by Cumulus Media. Prior to the sale's completion, Dial Global re-assumed the Westwood One name. Middle of the road (also known by its acronym MOR) is a commercial radio format and popular music genre. Music associated with this term is strongly melodic and uses techniques of vocal harmony and light orchestral arrangements. The format was eventually rebranded as soft adult contemporary. Etymology and usage According to music academic Norman Abjorensen, "middle of the road" has referred to a commercial radio format more often than a music genre, although "it has been used to describe a broad type of music" of numerous styles, usually characterized by vocal harmony techniques, prominent melodies, and subtle orchestral arrangements.
