WHXR
WHXR (106.3 FM; "The Bone") is an active rock radio station licensed to serve Scarborough, Maine, with studios in Portland. Established in 1974, the station is owned by Binnie Media. History WHXR signed on the air in 1974 as top 40 station WJBQ-FM; in 1981, the station swapped formats and call signs with 97.9 FM, becoming classical music station WDCS. It became WPKM in 1988, and in 1998 joined the WBACH network as WBQW. On October 2, 2008, the station switched call signs and programming with 104.7 (which operated with the WBACH classical music programming as WBQW until 2012, when it became top 40 station WHTP). On April 13, 2004, WHXQ originally began broadcasting on 104.7 as a classic rock station branded as "The Bone", shifting to active rock in 2006 and moving to 106.3 on October 2, 2008. WXTP (106.7 FM broadcasting, FM) is a Catholic radio, Catholic Talk radio, talk radio station licensed to North Windham, Maine, serving the Portland, Maine, Portland area from studios in Freeport, Maine, Freeport. The station is an affiliate of Relevant Radio and is owned by Relevant Radio, Inc. History The station signed on in 1996 as WVYH, and featured an adult standards format known as "The Jewel". The station was simulcast on sister stations WLAM (870 AM; now WLVP) in Gorham, Maine, Gorham and WZOU (1470 AM) in Lewiston, Maine, Lewiston. Nassau Broadcasting Partners LP was a company based in Princeton, New Jersey that owned radio stations in New England and the Mid-Atlantic United States. Nassau's stations, which included both AM and FM frequencies, were located in Maryland, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. The company was owned and headed by Louis F. Mercatanti. Nassau was predominantly an operator of radio stations in medium and small markets. Nassau formerly owned radio station WCRB in Waltham, a Boston suburb, and located in the Boston market, the 11th largest radio market in the US, according to BIA Financial Network. WBACH was a radio network in the state of Maine in the United States, active from 1991 to 2017. Airing on four stations at its peak, the network broadcast a classical music format from studios in Kennebunk. Following the bankruptcy of Nassau Broadcasting Partners in 2011, the network's stations were sold off and largely converted to translators of other radio stations. The WBACH format and branding remained on one of the former network's stations, WBQX in Thomaston, and was added in 2013 to a new translator in Portland.
