WGNR (1470 AM) is radio station licensed to Anderson, Indiana. It airs a Spanish language Christian format and is an owned and operated affiliate of Moody Radio. History The station began broadcasting in 1946 and held the call sign WCBC. It ran 1,000 watts during daytime hours only and was owned by Civic Broadcasting Corporation. In 1960, the station was sold to Radio WBOW, Inc. for $185,000. In September 1960, its call sign was changed to WERX. It was changed to WHUT the following month. In 1970, the station was sold to Eastern Broadcasting Company for $650,000. From the late 1960s until the early 1980s, the station aired a contemporary hits format. By 1984, it had adopted an adult standards format. Anderson, Indiana
Anderson is a city in and the county seat of Madison County, Indiana, United States. The population was 54,788 at the 2020 census. It is named after Chief William Anderson. The city is the headquarters of the Church of God and its Anderson University. Highlights of the city include the historic Paramount Theatre and the Gruenewald House. History Prior to the organization of Madison County, William Conner entered the land upon which Anderson is located. Conner later sold the ground to John and Sarah Berry, who donated of their land to Madison County on the condition that the county seat be moved from Pendleton to Anderson. John Berry laid out the first plat of Anderson on November 7, 1827. In 1828 the seat of justice was moved from Pendleton to Anderson. Adult standards (also sometimes known as the nostalgia or Big Band format) is a North American radio format heard primarily on AM or class A FM stations. Adult standards started in the 1950s and is aimed at "mature" adults, meaning mainly those people over 50 years of age, but it is mostly targeted for senior citizens. It is primarily on AM because market research reveals that only persons in that age group listen to music on AM in sizable numbers. Adult standards first became a popular format in the late 1970s and early 1980s as a way to reach mature adults who came of age before the rock era but were perhaps too mature for adult contemporary radio or too young for beautiful music or MOR stations. WBOW (1230 AM)
WBOW was a radio station on 1230 AM in Terre Haute, Indiana, which broadcast between 1927 and 2001. In the early 1990s, the WBOW intellectual unit moved to a new 640 AM facility. The 1230 AM facility then became WBFX, WZZQ and WBUZ, closing down when its licensee, Contemporary Media, Inc., had all of its licenses cancelled in response to a Federal Communications Commission investigation. History WBOW WBOW was the first successful radio station in Terre Haute, though it was not the first outright. That distinction belonged to WEAC, a short-lived station owned by Camille C. Baines that broadcast between May 30 and August 1922.
