WGEM-TV (channel 10) is a television station licensed to Quincy, Illinois, United States, serving the Quincy, Illinois–Hannibal, Missouri–Keokuk, Iowa media market, market as an affiliate of NBC, The CW Plus, and Fox Broadcasting Company, Fox. Owned by Gray Media, it is sister station, sister to the company's sole radio property, sports radio, sports station WGEM-FM (105.1). The two stations share studios in the New Tremont Apartments (formerly the Hotel Quincy) on Hampshire Street in downtown Quincy. WGEM-TV's transmitter is located east of the city on Cannonball Road near I-172. Until August 2, 2021, WGEM-TV served as the flagship (broadcasting), flagship television property of founding owner Quincy Media, and was sister to the company's namesake newspaper, ''The Quincy Herald-Whig''. WGEM-FM (105.1 Hertz, MHz; "Sports Radio 105.1") is a radio station in Quincy, Illinois, broadcasting a sports radio format. The station is the lone radio station owned by Gray Media, which owns WGEM-TV in Quincy, and is affiliated with ESPN Radio. History The station signed on August 1, 1947, as WQDI. It was Quincy Newspapers' first broadcasting station, signing on five months before WGEM (AM), WGEM; it was also the first FM station in the market. The WQDI callsign was retained until 1953, when the station became WGEM-FM to match the AM station and WGEM-TV. For much of its early history, WGEM-FM was a simulcast of WGEM. This ended by 1976, when the station implemented a country music format; "Gem Country" lasted until 2002, when it gave way to a Talk radio, news/talk format. KHQA-TV (channel 7) is a television station licensed to Hannibal, Missouri, United States, serving the Quincy, Illinois–Hannibal, Missouri–Keokuk, Iowa market as an affiliate of CBS and ABC. The station is owned by the Sinclair Broadcast Group, and maintains studios on South 36th Street in Quincy; its transmitter is located northeast of the city on Cannonball Road near I-172. WJJY-TV (channel 14) was a television station in Jacksonville, Illinois, United States, which broadcast from 1969 to 1971. It was the ABC affiliate for Quincy, Illinois, and served Springfield as well. History West-central Illinois had limited choices for television in the 1960s. Most of the western portion of the region was in the Quincy market, while most of the eastern portion was part of the Springfield– Decatur trading area of the Champaign– Urbana–Springfield market.
