World Extreme Cagefighting
World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) was an American mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion founded in 2001. It was purchased by Zuffa, LLC, the parent company of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), in 2006. In its final incarnation, it was made up of 3 weight classes: , and . To accommodate the smaller fighters, WEC's cage was in diameter— smaller than the standard UFC cage. The smaller cage is now used by UFC for selected events. Last champions Before the UFC bought out the WEC in December of 2010, there were 3 weight classes in its final incarnation, which were Bantamweight, Featherweight, and Lightweight. Poppies Martinez (born August 19, 1983) is a Native American professional mixed martial artist of the Tachi Yokuts tribe currently competing in the Lightweight division of Bellator. A professional competitor since 2003, he has also formerly competed for the California-based promotions, the WEC, Palace Fighting Championship, and Tachi Palace Fights. This is a list of World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) champions at each weight class. In December 2006 World Extreme Cagefighting was bought by Zuffa, LLC, the parent company of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, UFC, to concentrate on the four smaller weight classes under the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts. Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino is an Indian casino and hotel on the Santa Rosa Rancheria in Lemoore, California. History The 1,100-seat Southgate Bingo Palace was built for $1 million by Paland, Inc. of Dallas, and opened on November 4, 1983. Within seven months, the construction costs had been recouped, and payments to tribal members began. By 1986, when a $750,000 renovation was completed to make Southgate the "most luxurious bingo hall in the state", the hall was being operated by British-American Bingo, Inc., which received 45% of revenues, with the remainder going to the tribe. Tribal members also made up 20% of the hall's workforce. Revenues had grown to $5.3 million in 1987. Wesley Sims (born 12 October 1979) is a retired American professional mixed martial artist. A professional from 2001 until 2016, he competed in the UFC, the WEC, Strikeforce, K-1 and the IFL. Background Sims was born in Cleveland and raised in Amanda, Ohio.
