WDEO is a radio station broadcasting on 990 kilohertz in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Broadcasting Catholic programming, WDEO is operated by Ave Maria Radio. Most programming is locally produced, but some daytime content comes from the EWTN Global Catholic Radio Network. History WDEO began operations in 1962 as WYNZ, a 250-watt daytimer on 1520 AM with a country format, which changed to Top 40 in 1964 and then religious programming in 1968. Two young DJs who would go on to long careers in radio started at WYNZ: 14-year-old Jim Kerr, who got on the air by selling airtime to local merchants; and John Huzar, a teenaged friend who took over Kerr's show one week. Kerr later spent over twenty years in New York as WPLJ's morning man (1974–96), while Huzar—better known as Jim Harper—became a Detroit radio legend, retiring from WMGC-FM at the end of 2011. Al Kresta (August 23, 1951 – June 15, 2024) was an American Catholic broadcaster, journalist, and author. Formerly an Evangelical pastor, he later became the president and CEO of Ave Maria Radio. Biography A 1976 honors graduate of Michigan State University, Kresta has done graduate work in theology at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit and Ashland Theological Seminary. In 1986, Kresta began pastoring Shalom Ministry in Taylor, Michigan. He became well known in the Detroit area for his program, “Talk from the Heart,” one of the top-rated Christian talk shows during the 1980s and 90s on WMUZ. WMAX (1440 AM) is a radio station broadcasting a Catholic religious format. It is co-owned with WDEO 990 AM in Ypsilanti, Michigan, and features the same programming from the EWTN Global Catholic Radio network. History Licensed to Bay City, Michigan, it first began broadcasting in 1925 as WSKC at 1150 kHz, with its call sign reflecting its ownership by the World's Star Knitting Co. It was the first radio station in the Tri-Cities and first Michigan radio station north of Flint. In 1930, the call sign changed to WBCM, followed by a shift in frequency in 1941 to 1440 kHz. Domino's Farms
Domino's Farms is an office park in Ann Arbor Charter Township, Michigan, centered around a four-story, , Prairie style groundscraper known as the "Prairie House". Domino's Pizza founder Tom Monaghan commissioned the complex in the early 1980s to serve as the company's headquarters, and Monaghan remains the owner of the complex after selling his stake in Domino's in 1998. The complex was designed by Gunnar Birkerts in the style of Frank Lloyd Wright, whom Monaghan admired. Construction began in 1984, and the sixth and final phase of the Prairie House was fully completed in 2005. Licensed to Saline, Michigan, with offices in nearby Ann Arbor, the station has a talk format and serves surrounding Washtenaw County. Saline ( ') is a city in Washtenaw County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 8,948 at the 2020 census. The city borders Saline Township to the southwest, and the two are administered autonomously.
