WCT Circuit
The WCT Circuit was a tour for professional male tennis players that commenced in 1968 (the organization and first players signed a contract at the end of 1967) it lasted until 1989 when it and ITF Grand Prix Circuit were both replaced by the new ATP Tour in 1990. It was administered by World Championship Tennis. A number of tennis tournaments around the world were affiliated with the WCT and players were ranked in special WCT rankings according to their results in those tournaments. The season-ending championship for the WCT Circuit was the WCT Finals. History The WCT Circuit was one of the two rival professional male tennis circuits started in 1968. ITF Grand Prix Circuit
The ITF Grand Prix Circuit was a professional tennis tour for male players founded in 1970 as the ILTF Grand Prix Tennis Circuit it was administered by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and ran annually until 1989 when it and the rival WCT Circuit were replaced by a single world wide ATP Tour. The women's tour the ILTF Women's International Grand Prix Circuit ran from 1971 to 1976. It's events were absorbed to form the Colgate International Series. Tim Mayotte
Timothy Mayotte (born August 3, 1960) is an American former professional tennis player. He was ranked as high as world No. 7 in men's singles by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP). Mayotte won twelve singles titles during his career. Professional career A tall serve-and-volleyer, Mayotte learned to play the game on the public courts of Forest Park in his hometown of Springfield, Massachusetts. He played tennis for Stanford University in the early-1980s and won the NCAA singles title in 1981. Mayotte won his first top-level professional singles title in 1985 at the inaugural Lipton International Players Championships (now known as the Miami Masters). The 1986 Buick WCT Finals was a men's tennis tournament played on indoor carpet courts. It was the 16th edition of the WCT Finals, and was part of the 1986 Nabisco Grand Prix. David Pate
David Pate (born April 16, 1962) is a former professional tennis player from the United States who won two singles titles and eighteen doubles titles during his career. He reached a career-high singles ranking of World No. 18 in June 1987 and attained the World No. 1 doubles ranking in January 1991. Brian Teacher
Brian David Teacher (born December 23, 1954) is an American former professional tennis player. He reached career-high rankings of world No. 7 in singles and world No. 5 in doubles, both in 1981. Teacher is best remembered for being a major singles champion, triumphing at the 1980 Australian Open. He won eight career singles titles and 16 doubles titles. Anders Per Järryd (; born 13 July 1961) is a former professional tennis player from Sweden. During his career he won eight Grand Slam doubles titles (three French Open, two Wimbledon, two US Open, one Australian Open), reached the world No. 1 doubles ranking, and achieved a career-high singles ranking of world No. 5. Tim Wilkison
Tim Wilkison (born November 23, 1959) is a former professional tennis player from the United States. Tennis career Wilkison was the No. 1 ranked junior in the United States and played on the tour for over 25 years. He prepped at McCallie School in Chattanooga, Tennessee before turning pro immediately after high school. Mikael Pernfors (; born 16 July 1963) is a former professional tennis player from Sweden. He reached the men's singles final at the French Open in 1986, and won the 1993 Canadian Open in Montreal. Jan Stefan Edberg (; born 19 January 1966) is a Swedish former professional tennis player. WCT Atlanta Championships
The WCT Atlanta Championships was a men's tennis tournament played in Atlanta, Georgia founded in 1969 as the Atlanta Tennis Classic. It ran annually with breaks until 1986. The event was first part of the WCT Circuit from 1970 to 1976, then part of the ITF Grand Prix Circuit from 1978 to 1981, 1985 to 1986. It was played on outdoor hard courts in 1969 and 1970, and on indoor carpet courts at the Alexander Memorial Coliseum in 1973–76. Henrik Sundström
Henrik Sundström (born 29 February 1964) is a former professional male tennis player from Sweden. He is nicknamed Henke. Sundström was at his best on clay and achieved his strongest results on this surface, with his solid and heavy topspin groundstrokes from the baseline. He reached a career-high singles ranking of World No. 6. Tennis career Sundström turned professional in 1981 and in 1982 he went on to make his first final at the Swedish Open in Båstad losing to countryman and reigning French Open champion Mats Wilander.
