WCFX
WCFX is an FM radio station broadcasting at 6,000 watts in Clare, Michigan. The station primarily serves Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, the home of Central Michigan University, with a Top 40 (CHR) format as "Today's Best Music, 95-3 CFX." The station has operated with its current calls and format since 1980. What is now WCFX was originally WCRM-FM, co-owned with the now-defunct WCRM/990 (the calls stood for ''Crossroads of Michigan'', referring to the station's being located near the geographic center of the state). It became WRNN-FM on June 6, 1979. Later that year, both AM 990 and 95.3 FM went off the air. In 1980 the silent 95.3 FM was purchased by legendary Detroit broadcaster Paul Christy and returned to the air with Top 40 programming in November of that year as WCFX, originally known as "Foxy 95." WABX
WABX is a radio station in Evansville, Indiana, owned by Duey Wright, through licensee Midwest Communications, Inc. The station, which broadcasts at 107.5 FM, has aired a classic rock format since 1997. Former WABX From 1960 to 1984, WABX ("The station that glows in the dark") was the call sign of a widely influential freeform/progressive rock radio station in Detroit, Michigan. In 1985, WABX's former consultant, Paul Christy, purchased WCFX/95.3 in Clare, Michigan, and subsequently parked the WABX calls on WCFX's sister station, 990 AM. WABX/990 ceased operations in 1988. Mount Pleasant, Michigan
Mount Pleasant is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan. The city is the county seat of Isabella County, which is part of Central Michigan. The population of Mount Pleasant was 21,688 as of the 2020 census. The city is surrounded by Union Charter Township, but is politically independent. Part of the city (with a population of 8,741) is located within the Isabella Indian Reservation, the base of the federally recognized Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Nation. The tribe's Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort in nearby Chippewa Township is also within the reservation boundaries. Clare is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan. Located near the center of Michigan's Lower Peninsula, the city is located mostly in Clare County, while a small portion extends south into Isabella County. The city had a population of 3,254 at the 2020 census. Clare was settled as early as 1870 and contains two listings on the National Register of Historic Places: the Clare Downtown Historic District and the Clare Congregational Church. WKHM-FM (105.3 MHz "K105.3") is a hot adult contemporary radio station licensed to Brooklyn, Michigan, United States, serving the Jackson area. History The WKHM callsign has a long Jackson tradition and is based on the names of the original owners of WKHM AM (Fred Knorr, Harvey Hansen, and Bill McCoy). The first WKHM-FM operated on 106.1 and is now WJXQ. The current WKHM-FM signed on in 1995 and originally programmed easy listening music, one of the last stations in Michigan to program such a format.
