History Beginnings WCCB traces its roots to WAYS-TV, which signed on the air on January 5, 1954, as Charlotte's second television station. It was a primary American Broadcasting Company, ABC affiliate with a secondary NBC affiliation. Broadcasting on UHF channel 36, it was North Carolina's second UHF station (after WNAO-TV in Raleigh).
