WBZR-FM (105.9 FM broadcasting, FM, "Hot Country 105.9") is an American radio station city of license, licensed to serve Atmore, Alabama. The station, which began regular broadcast operations in 1991, is currently owned and operated by Larry and Earnest White, through licensee Tri-County Broadcasting Inc. Programming WBZR-FM broadcasts a country music format specializing in country music from the 1970s and 1980s, with a few songs from the 1950s, 1960s, and 1990s. WBZR-FM programming is available on the web via streaming audio to listeners around the world. The majority of WBZR-FM's daytime programming was normally simulcast on its sister station, the then-WJNZ (AM), WBZR (1000 AM). WJNZ (1000 AM broadcasting, AM, "Talk Radio 1000") is a Clear-channel station#Daytimers, daytime-only American radio station licensed to serve the community of license, community of Robertsdale, Alabama. The station, launched in 1985, is owned and operated by Noah Britt, through licensee Tri City Radio, LLC. Programming WJNZ broadcasts a Talk radio, talk format. On August 16, 2012, the station's transmitter was damaged by lightning and the station had fallen temporarily dark (broadcasting), silent. WBZR-FM continued to broadcast, dropping the AM call sign from its branding. On February 20, 2013, the call sign of WBZR was changed to WDXZ and it was launched as a Southern gospel format to separate it from the FM in Atmore, which continued to broadcast country music. Atmore is a city in Escambia County, Alabama, Escambia County, Alabama, United States. It was incorporated in 1907. As of the 2020 United States Census, 2020 census, it has a population of 8,391. Atmore is in the planning stages to increase its economic base with additions in its new Rivercane development along the Interstate 65 in Alabama, I-65 corridor. Atmore has completed requirements to be recognized as an Alabama Community of Excellence at the upcoming Alabama League of Municipalities Convention. Nielsen Audio (formerly Arbitron) is a consumer research company in the United States that collects listener data on radio broadcasting audiences. It was founded as the American Research Bureau by Jim Seiler in 1949 and became national by merging with Los Angeles-based Coffin, Cooper, and Clay in the early 1950s. The company's initial business was the collection of broadcast television ratings. The company changed its name to Arbitron in the mid‑1960s, the namesake of the Arbitron System, a centralized statistical computer with leased lines to viewers' homes to monitor their activity. The newspaper is a descendant of one founded in 1813, making the ''Press-Register'' Alabama's oldest newspaper. It is owned by Advance Publications, which also owns the primary newspapers in Birmingham, Alabama and Huntsville, Alabama. Hurricane Ivan was a large, long-lived, Cape Verde hurricane that caused widespread damage in the Caribbean and United States. The cyclone was the ninth named storm, the sixth hurricane and the fourth major hurricane of the active 2004 Atlantic hurricane season. Ivan formed in early September, and reached Category 5 strength on the Saffir–Simpson Hurricane Scale (SSHS). The American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) () is an American not-for-profit performance-rights organization (PRO) that collectively licenses the public performance rights of its members' musical works to venues, broadcasters, and digital streaming services (music stores). ASCAP collects licensing fees from users of music created by ASCAP members, then distributes them back to its members as royalties. In effect, the arrangement is the product of a compromise: when a song is played, the user does not have to pay the copyright holder directly, nor does the music creator have to bill a radio station for use of a song.
