WBQA is a non-commercial FM classical music radio station located at 96.7, owned by Maine Public Broadcasting Corporation and licensed to Boothbay Harbor, Maine. The station serves Mid Coast Maine with studios in Portland, Lewiston and Bangor. WBQA operates as part of the Maine Public Classical network. History The station signed on April 1, 1984, as WCME, an easy listening station owned by Bay Communications. WCME had news affiliations with the Associated Press and CNN. The Maine Public Broadcasting Network (abbreviated MPBN and branded as Maine Public) is a state network of public television and radio stations located in the U.S. state of Maine. It is operated by the Maine Public Broadcasting Corporation, which holds the licenses for all the PBS and NPR stations licensed in the state. WCTB
WCTB is an FM radio broadcast station licensed to Fairfield, Maine, USA, with studios in Skowhegan. It broadcasts on 93.5 MHz with a classic country format. History WCTB originally signed on as an adult contemporary music station in 1993. In the late 1990s, the station went through several format changes, at times simulcasting the sports talk of WSKW and country music (both classic and current country) simulcasted on WCME (now WBQA). In late 2003, when Clear Channel Broadcasting lost control of the station, WCTB began to stunt with Christmas music (as they had done every year from Thanksgiving to Christmas). WPPI (95.5 FM) is a sports radio station in the Portland, Maine area. The current owner is Atlantic Coast Radio. The station mostly carries the same programs as WEEI-FM from Boston. Some local commercials take the place of Boston commercials. And some WEEI-FM game broadcasts are substituted with Fox Sports Radio. Boothbay Harbor is a town in Lincoln County, Maine, United States. The population was 2,027 at the 2020 census. It includes the villages of Bayville, Sprucewold, and West Boothbay Harbor. WSKW (1160 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station licensed to Skowhegan, Maine. It is owned by Mountain Wireless and it carries a radio format of sports from CBS Sports Radio. The studios and offices are in the Lee Farm Mall in Augusta. WSKW broadcasts with 10,000 watts by day and uses a non-directional antenna at all times. But because AM 1160 is a clear channel frequency reserved for Class A KSL Salt Lake City, WSKW must reduce power at night to 730 watts to avoid interference. The transmitter is off Middle Road (Route 104) in Skowhegan. History WSKW signed on the air on March 17, 1956. It originally broadcast on AM 1150 using the call sign WGHM.
