WASP-17b
WASP-17b, officially named Ditsö̀, is an exoplanet in the constellation Scorpius that is orbiting the star WASP-17. Its discovery was announced on 11 August 2009. It is the first planet discovered to have a retrograde orbit, meaning it orbits in a direction counter to the rotation of its host star. This discovery challenged traditional planetary formation theory. In terms of diameter, WASP-17b is one of the largest exoplanets discovered and at half Jupiter's mass, this made it the most puffy planet known in 2010. On 3 December 2013, scientists working with the Hubble Space Telescope reported detecting water in the exoplanet's atmosphere. WASP-17 is an F-type main sequence star approximately 1,310 light-years away in the constellation Scorpius. WASP-17 is named Dìwö. The name was selected in the NameExoWorlds campaign by Costa Rica, during the 100th anniversary of the IAU. Dìwö in Bribri language means the sun. The star, although similar to the Sun in terms of overall contents of heavy elements, is depleted of carbon. The carbon to oxygen molar ratio of 0.18 for WASP-17 is well below the solar ratio of 0.55. Planetary system As of 2009, an exoplanet has been confirmed to orbit the star. WASP or Wide Angle Search for Planets is an international consortium of several academic organisations performing an ultra-wide angle search for exoplanets using transit photometry. The array of robotic telescopes aims to Astronomical survey, survey the entire sky, simultaneously monitoring many thousands of stars at an apparent visual magnitude from about 7 to 13. The Bribri (also Abicetava) are an Indigenous peoples of the Americas, Indigenous people in eastern Costa Rica and northern Panama. Today, most Bribri people speak the Bribri language or Spanish. There are varying estimates from government officials of the group's population. Estimates of the total Bribri population range as high as 35,000 people, although official estimates assert there are about 11,500 Bribri people in Costa Rica, and about 1000 Bribri people in Panama.
