Víctor Pey
Víctor Pey Casado (31 August 1915 – 5 October 2018) was a Spanish-born Chilean engineer, professor and businessman. He was born in Madrid, the son of writer and priest Segismundo Pey Ordeix, and Manuela Casado, from Valladolid. At the age of two, he moved with his family to Barcelona. During the Spanish Civil War, he fought on the Republican side and was a member to the Durruti Column. He formed part of the Spanish government in exile as a technical advisor to the War Industries Commission of Catalonia. He crossed the Pyrenees into France on 25 January 1939, was interned by French authorities and sent to a prison camp at Perpignan. In September 1939, Pablo Neruda arranged that Pey and his family board the SS Winnipeg for Chile. ''Clarín'' is a Chilean online newspaper, originally published as a publication, print publication between 1954 and 1973, when it was closed following the 1973 Chilean coup d'état, coup d'état on 11 September. A new edition was published forty years later, on 11 September 2013, in collaboration with ''El Ciudadano''. ''Clarín'' slogan was "Firme junto al pueblo" ("[Staying] strong with the people"). Pinochet Dictatorship
An authoritarian military dictatorship ruled Chile for seventeen years, between 11 September 1973 and 11 March 1990. The dictatorship was established after the democratically elected socialist government of Salvador Allende was overthrown in a coup d'état backed by the United States on 11 September 1973. During this time, the country was ruled by a military junta headed by General Augusto Pinochet. The military used the breakdown of democracy and the economic crisis that took place during Allende's presidency to justify its seizure of power. The dictatorship presented its mission as a "national reconstruction". The coup was the result of multiple forces, including pressure from conservative groups, certain political parties, union strikes and other domestic unrest, as well as international factors.
