Vänersborgs IF
Vänersborgs IF is a Swedish Association football, football club located in Vänersborg. The club was founded in 1906. The current men's football team head coach is Andy Kilner. Background The club was founded in 1906. In the 1940s, it became the first team from Västergötland which made a national impact in bandy, but has since given up this sport. Vänersborgs IF currently (2021) plays in Swedish football Division 1, Division 1 Södra which is the third tier of Swedish football league system, Swedish football. They play their home matches at Vänersvallen in Vänersborg; the football ground has a capacity of around 2000 people. The club is affiliated to Västergötlands Fotbollförbund. Vänersborg () is a Urban areas in Sweden, locality and the seat of Vänersborg Municipality, Västra Götaland County, Sweden with 23,882 inhabitants (out of a municipal total of 39,904) Until 1997 it was the capital of Älvsborg County, which merged into Västra Götaland County. Since 1999 Vänersborg has been the seat of the regional parliament for Region Västra Götaland. The city is located on the southern shores of lake Vänern, close to where the river Göta älv leaves the lake. History A marketplace was established at Brätte at the southern end of Vassbotten (southernmost part of Vänern), south of modern Vänersborg, by the end of the medieval period. The settlement developed with paved streets lined with houses and farms and it was granted town privileges in 1580. The site, however, became unsuitable for trans-shipment of goods due to silting of its harbour and it was difficult to protect. Andy Kilner
Andrew William Kilner (born 11 October 1966) is an English former professional footballer and manager. He began his career with Burnley, progressing through the club's youth system and making his professional debut in 1986 before being released. After spells with non-league sides Hyde United and Altrincham, he moved to Sweden where he spent two seasons. After impressing during a trial spell, he joined Stockport County in 1990 and scores twice on his full debut. He went on to make 49 appearances in all competitions and spent time on loan at Rochdale and Bury before leaving the club in 1992. He later played for Witton Albion, Chorley, Radcliffe Borough and Norwegian side Fredrikstad FK before retiring due to injury at the age of 29. After working for Bolton Wanderers in a community role, he returned to Stockport where he was placed in charge of their Centre of Excellence. Ettan Fotboll, or simply Ettan (), which also is its common name in everyday speech, is the third level in the Swedish football league system and consists of 32 Sweden, Swedish football (soccer), football teams.
