Vyacheslav Derkach
Vyacheslav Derkach (born 23 June 1976) is a former Ukrainian biathlete. Career Derkach competed in the 1998, 2002, 2006 and 2010 Winter Olympics for Ukraine. His best performance was 7th, as part of the 2002 Ukrainian relay team. His best individual performance was 23rd, in the 2002 individual. In 1998, he finished 50th in the individual and 18th as part of the relay team. In 2002, he finished 36th in the sprint and 40th in the relay. In 2006, he finished 72nd in the sprint. In 2010, he finished 77th in the sprint and 8th as part of the relay team. His best performance at the Biathlon World Championships, is 5th, as part of the 2009 Ukrainian men's relay team. His best individual performance is 16th, in the 2008 sprint. Derkach has earned four Biathlon World Cup podium finishes. Pryluky
Pryluky ( uk, Прилу́ки ) is a city and municipality located on the Udai River in Chernihiv Oblast, north-central Ukraine. It serves as the administrative center of Pryluky Raion (district). Located nearby is the Pryluky air base, a major strategic bomber base during the Cold War, which is Ukraine's largest airfield. Population: History Archeological excavations have shown that a settlement on the territory of the present-day city dates back to the second millennium BC. According to one explanation, the city derived its name from its location, being situated on a turn in the river that looked like a bow when viewed from above. Biathlon World Championships 2008
The 42nd Biathlon World Championships were held in Östersund, Sweden from 8 to 17 February 2008. It was the second time Östersund was hosting the Biathlon World Championships, the first being in 1970. It was also 50 years after the first Biathlon World Championships, which were held 1958 in Saalfelden, Austria. There were a total of 11 competitions: sprint, pursuit, individual, mass start, and relay races for men and women, and the relatively new mixed relay. The championships were dominated by the German, Norwegian, and Russian teams, which would win every competition and 28 of the 33 available medals. The Men's 20 kilometre individual biathlon competition at the 2002 Winter Olympics was held on 11 February, at Soldier Hollow. Competitors raced over five loops of a 4.0 kilometre skiing course, shooting four times, twice prone and twice standing. Each miss resulted in one minute being added to a competitor's skiing time. Results Raphaël Poirée was defending overall World Cup champion, while Sergei Rozhkov was the defending World Cup champion in the individual race. Paavo Puurunen had won the most recent world championships, and Halvard Hanevold had won the 1998 Olympic title. Ole Einar Bjørndalen, who had finished just behind Poirée in the overall world cup, had dominated the test event in 2001, winning all three races, including the individual, beating Sven Fischer. The 2006 Winter Olympics, officially the XX Olympic Winter Games ( it, XX Giochi olimpici invernali) and also known as Torino 2006, were a winter multi-sport event held from 10 to 26 February 2006 in Turin, Italy.
