Vugraph
Vugraph (or Viewgraph) is a method of displaying the bidding and play of bridge hands on a screen for viewing by an audience. The basis of the current computer-generated display was originally developed by Fred Gitelman for the American Contract Bridge League in 1991 under a grant from the estate of Peter Pender, a champion player. Then known as PenderGraph, the software program was first used at the 1991 Summer North American Bridge Championships at Las Vegas. Bridge-O-Rama
Bridge-O-Rama was a system of electro-mechanical display boards on which an audience could view a representation of the bidding and play of hands at high-level contract bridge tournaments. Developed in Italy and first used in the World Championships at the Bermuda Bowl in 1958, representations of the actual playing cards in each hand were arranged in frames on the display and were able to be lit from behind as play progressed. The lighting was operated by a number of switches at a control console wired to the displays. In a typical team-of-four match, the audience would be advised about the results in one room and would watch the replay by team members in the other room as expert officials provided analysis and commentary on the bidding and play. Fred Gitelman
Frederick "Fred" Gitelman (born February 6, 1965) is a Canadian-American bridge player, developer of bridge software, and a founder of the online bridge platform Bridge Base Online. Biography Gitelman has won one world championship, nine North American Bridge Championships, and a gold medal in the 2002 IOC Grand Prix. He was a runner-up in the 1995 Bermuda Bowl as a member of the Canada open . In 2005 he was named Personality of the Year by the International Bridge Press Association. Gitelman was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He was a member of the Canadian youth and later open international teams before he moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. He resides there with his wife, Sheri Weinstock, also a well-known bridge player. He competed for Team Canada at the 1993 Maccabiah Games and 1997 Maccabiah Games in Israel. Peter Pender
Peter Alexander Pender (August 10, 1936 – November 18, 1990) was an American bridge player and figure skater from Forestville, California. He died of AIDS in San Francisco, California. Pender, who was born in Pennsylvania, was an elite figure skater who won gold medals from both the U.S. and Canadian Figure Skating Associations. In the late 1950s he traveled frequently to Montreal for skating competition, and met his 1980s bridge partner Hugh Ross there. He moved to San Francisco in 1960. In 1966 Pender and Jeremy Flint, who had played for Great Britain in the 1965 Bermuda Bowl world championship, were regular partners in American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) competition after Flint arrived to tour the US in mid-February. North American Bridge Championships
North American Bridge Championships (NABC) are three annual contract bridge, bridge tournaments sponsored by the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL).
