Ann Vriend
Ann Vriend is a Canadian singer-songwriter and pianist based in Edmonton, Alberta. Vriend has played festivals and venues around the world. Recording career Vriend released a popular demo in 2000 which received immediate radio play on stations across western Canada and earned her a spot at the Edmonton Folk Music Festival. A year later she won a songwriting contest which took her to Nashville, Tennessee and helped fund her debut album, ''Soul Unravelling'' (2003), which was well received by critics and sold well for an independent release. The album is now in its fifth pressing. Vriend's second album, ''Modes of Transport'', was released two years later. "Feelin' Fine", the album's first single, was put on heavy rotation by a local adult contemporary/jazz radio station. A third album, ''When We Were Spies'', was released on 11 March 2008. Cornelis Wilhelmus Pieter "Cor" Vriend (born 8 November 1949) is a former long-distance runner from the Netherlands, who mainly competed in the marathon. He participated in two consecutive Summer Olympics for his native country; in 1980 (Moscow, 41st place) and 1984 (Los Angeles, 39th place). During the early 1980s he was overshadowed by his fellow countryman Gerard Nijboer. Vriend twice won the Amsterdam Marathon, in 1983 and 1984. Delwin Vriend is a Canadian man who was at the center of a landmark provincial and federal legal case, Vriend v. Alberta, concerning the inclusion of sexual orientation as a protected human right in Canada. Early life Delwin Vriend was born in Sioux Center, Iowa, in 1966, to a Canadian father and an American mother. At the age of two, Vriend moved to Edmonton, Alberta with his family. The oldest of five children, he was raised with three siblings on an organic vegetable farm south of Edmonton in Leduc County. His parents were members of the local Christian Reformed Church, and he attended private Christian elementary and secondary schools, before enrolling at The King's College (now The King's University) in Edmonton. He then transferred to Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to earn his physics and mathematics degree. Jan Vriend
Jan Vriend (born November 1938 in Benningbroek) is a Dutch classical music composer, conductor, organist and pianist. He lives in Gloucestershire, England, and has lived there since 1984. Studies and career Vriend studied at the Amsterdam Conservatory from 1960 to 1967, with Else Krijgsoman (piano), Anthon van der Horst and Jan Felderhof (music theory), and Ton de Leeuw (composition). During this period, he also studied electronic music with Gottfried Michael Koenig at the University of Utrecht. Vriend won the Conservatoire of Amsterdam Prize for Composition (1967), the Schnittger Organ Prize (1966) for his composition ''Herfst'' (Dutch for "Autumn") and the Gaudeamus International Composers Award with '' Huantan'' in 1970. As a conductor, Vriend has directed several choirs and instrumental ensembles which perform both early and contemporary music. Willem "Wim" Jan Frederik Vriend (9 November 1941 – 30 September 2021) was a water polo player from the Netherlands, who finished in eighth position with the Dutch Men's Team at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
