Volda (village)
Volda is the administrative centre of Volda Municipality, in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The village is located on the northeastern shore of the Voldsfjorden, just less than south of the village of Ørsta. The village has a population (2024) of 7,143 and a population density of . Volda is home to the municipal administration, municipal schools, and the regional hospital. Volda University College is located there; the college enrolls about 3,000 students and specializes in education of teachers, animators, documentarists, and journalists. Volda has a shopping center as well as some industry. Volda Church is located in the central part of the village. The local newspaper is ''Avisa Møre''. Volda Church
Volda Church () is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Volda Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is located in the village of Volda, along the northeastern shore of the Voldsfjorden. It is the church for the Volda parish as well as the seat of the Søre Sunnmøre prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Møre. The large stone church was built in a long church design in 1932 using plans drawn up by the architect Arnstein Arneberg. The church seats about 800 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to 1338, but the church existed before that time. The first church in Volda was likely built in the 1200s. The oldest known building on the site was a wooden stave church and it was located about southwest of the present church site. The original nave measured about and the choir measured about . Volda TI
Volda TI (''Volda Turn- og Idrottslag'') is a sports club in Volda in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It currently has sections for association football and "general sports". The club was founded as ''Voldens TF'' in 1899 as a gymnastics club. Other sports were added later, including association football in 1916. The name was changed to the ''Volda TI'' in 1945. In 1998, the club was organized as an alliance sports team, which had two overarching legal entities: Football and general sports (Allidrett). It currently has sections for association football, alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, swimming, Frisbee-golf and children's athletics. Volda University College
Volda University College ( or HVO) is one of the no-tuition state institutions in the system of higher education in Norway. It is located in Volda in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. History HVO was established on 1 August 1994, when the Møre og Romsdal regional college and the Volda Teachers College were merged. HVO has a long tradition in Volda dating back to a teachers' training college which was first established here in 1895. The current rector is Odd Helge Mjellem Tonheim (2025), in 2024 the university has approximately 4 60studentsand 350 employees (2020).
