''Vol. IV'' is the fourth studio album from Mexican hip hop group Cartel de Santa. It was released on February 20, 2008, by Sony BMG and Babilonia Music. The album has featured guests such as Mery Dee and El Rapero Fracasado. Background The album, in Babo's words, was supposed to record in jail but Mexican laws forbade it, Babo and his own record label Babilonia Music recorded the album for free for Sony Music, a lot of fans supports to pay the bail. Cartel De Santa
Cartel de Santa is a Mexican rap group from Santa Catarina, Nuevo León, Santa Catarina, Nuevo León, Mexico, founded by Hector Montaño and Ronaldo Sifuentes. The band started playing in 1999 as part of the Avanzada Regia musical movement and Artilleria Pesada. Currently composed by Eduardo Davalos de Luna, also known as MC Babo or Babo (lead vocals), Rowan Rabia (beatmaker) and DJ Agustín (only in live shows). They have been referred to as one of the most notable Mexican hip hop, Mexican hip-hop groups. History Cartel de Santa started playing in 1996, when MC Babo and some friends began singing improvised rap songs. The group became famous in 2003, when the band released its first self-titled album. Mexican Rap
Chicano rap is a subgenre of hip hop that embodies aspects of Southwest Mexican American or Chicano culture. It is typically performed by rappers and musicians of Mexican descent. History Early years The first widely recognized Chicano rap artist was former electro musician Kid Frost. His 1990 debut album ''Hispanic Causing Panic'' was driven by the hit single "La Raza", which combined Latin and Tex-Mex influences, to bring new attention to Chicano rappers on the West Coast. Gangsta Rap
Gangsta rap or gangster rap, initially called reality rap, emerged in the mid- to late 1980s as a controversial hip-hop subgenre whose lyrics assert the culture and values typical of American street gangs and street hustlers.
