The Faroe Islands Premier League (also known as ''Betri deildin'' for sponsorship reasons) is the top level of football in the Faroe Islands. It was founded in 1942 as Meistaradeildin, and it is played in current format since 2005, when Premier League replaced 1. deild as the country's top football division. The league is organised by the Faroe Islands Football Association. It is contested by 10 clubs. At the end of every season, two teams are relegated and two promoted from 1. deild. As of February 2024, the Faroe Islands Premier League is ranked 38th out of 55 leagues in the UEFA coefficient. FC Suðuroy
FC Suðuroy is a Faroe Islands, Faroese professional Association football, football club which was founded in January 2010 and consists of the former clubs Vágs Bóltfelag, VB (founded in 1905) and SÍ Sumba, Sumba (founded in 1949), which merged in 2005 to form VB/Sumba. FC Suðuroy's competes in the 1. deild since 2024. It plays home games at the á Eiðinum, á Eiðinum Stadium in Vágur. Víkingur Gøta
Víkingur is a Faroe Islands, Faroese professional Association football, football club based in Leirvík. The club was founded in 2008 after the merger of GÍ Gøta and Leirvík ÍF. They play at the Serpugerði Stadium in Norðragøta. Both villages are part of the same municipality Eysturkommuna, located on the island of Eysturoy and about 5 kilometers away from each other. The club won the Faroese championship for the first time in the 2016 season. In the 2017 season, Vikingur won the championship again. B68 Toftir is a Faroe Islands, Faroese football Football team, club based in the village of Toftir in Betri deildin. History After being promoted to the Faroe Islands Premier League Football, 1. deild (now called Effodeildin) in 1980, they won the league 3 times: in 1984, 1985, and 1992. In 2004 they were relegated. 2005 saw them bounce back to the top flight, coming first in the second division, but they were again relegated from the Premier Division at end of the 2006 season. In 2007, they easily won the second division, and were promoted. In the 2008 season, they came 6th out of 10 in the Premier League. In the 2009 season, they finished in 4th place. In 2010, they finished as number 7 in the Effodeildin, and in 2011, they finished as number 6. Promotion And Relegation
Promotion and relegation is used by sports leagues as a process where teams can move up and down among divisions in a league system, based on their performance over a season. Leagues that use promotion and relegation systems are sometimes called open leagues. In a system of promotion and relegation, the best-ranked team(s) in a lower division are ''promoted'' to a higher division for the next season, and the worst-ranked team(s) in the higher division are ''relegated'' to the lower division for the next season. 07 Vestur is a Faroe Islands, Faroese football (soccer), football club, which was founded in 2007. It is located in Sandavágur and Sørvágur on Vágar island. History The club was founded 18 December 1993 as FS Vágar. It was a merger of Vágar island teams MB Miðvágur and SÍF Sandavágur in order to increase the footballing standard of this part of the Faroe Islands. SÍ Sørvágur, also located on Vágar, joined the club in 1998. Soon, the newly founded club promoted to the Faroe Islands Premier League Football, national top league which, at that point in 1995, was called 1. deild. NSÍ Runavík
NSÍ Runavík is a Faroe Islands, Faroese professional association football, football club, playing in Runavík on the island of Eysturoy. It was founded 24 March 1957. In 2003 NSÍ participated for the first time on a European stage. In 2007, the club won the Faroe Islands Premier League for the first time. Tórshavn
Tórshavn (; ; Danish language, Danish: ''Thorshavn''), usually locally referred to as simply Havn, is the capital and largest city of the Faroe Islands. The club was founded in 1993, as result of the merger between Eiðis Bóltfelag, EB and Ítróttarfelagið Streymur, Streymur.
