Vladimir Voronin
Vladimir Voronin (; born Vladimir Bujeniță, 25 May 1941) is a Moldovan politician. He was the third President of Moldova#Republic of Moldova (1991–present), President of Moldova from 2001 until 2009 and has been the leader of the Party of Communists of the Republic of Moldova, Party of Communists of Moldova (PCRM) since 1994. He was Europe's first democratically elected communist party head of state after the dissolution of the Eastern Bloc. Family and education Vladimir Voronin was born as Vladimir Bujeniță in the village of Corjova, Dubăsari, Corjova, located that time in the Soviet occupation of Bessarabia and Northern Bukovina, newly-established Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic, Moldavian SSR. Oleg Voronin (born 4 November 1962) is a Moldovan businessman and the son of former president Vladimir Voronin. Biography Oleg Voronin born on November 4, 1962, in Criuleni, then in the Moldovan SSR. He is the son of former Moldovan president Vladimir Voronin and Taisia Mihailovna; Isidor Sârbu is the great-grandfather of Oleg. The Eastern Bloc, also known as the Communist Bloc (Combloc), the Socialist Bloc, the Workers Bloc, and the Soviet Bloc, was an unofficial coalition of communist states of Central and Eastern Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America that were aligned with the Soviet Union and existed during the Cold War (1947–1991). The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR (MVD; ) was the interior ministry of the Soviet Union from 1946 to 1991. The MVD was established as the successor to the NKVD during reform of the People's Commissariats into the Ministries of the Soviet Union in 1946. The MVD did not include agencies concerned with secret policing unlike the NKVD, with the function being assigned to the Ministry of State Security (MGB). The MVD and MGB were briefly merged into a single ministry from March 1953 until the MGB was split off as the Committee for State Security (KGB) in March 1954. Petru Pascari (; born 22 September 1929) is a Soviet and Moldovan politician. Petru Pascari was on two occasions the prime minister of the Moldavian SSR: 24 April 1970 – 1 August 1976 (1st time) and 10 January – 26 May 1990 (2nd time). Biography Petru Pascari was born in the small village of Stroenți ( Stroiești) in the north of Transnistria, in Rîbnița District. Ivan Calin (10 March 1935 – 2 January 2012) was a Soviet and Moldovan agronomist-scholar, political scientist, diplomat and politician. Biography Calin was born in the small village of Plot in Rîbnița District, then in Moldavian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. Calin was President of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Moldavian SSR from 10 April 1980 to 24 December 1985. Following this he became prime minister of the Moldavian SSR until 10 January 1990.
