Viscount Dilhorne
Viscount Dilhorne, of Greens Norton in the County of Northampton, is a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. It was created on 7 December 1964 for the lawyer, Conservative politician and former Lord Chancellor, Reginald Manningham-Buller, 1st Baron Dilhorne. He had already succeeded his father as fourth Baronet of Dilhorne and been created Baron Dilhorne, ''of Towcester in the County of Northampton'' on 17 July 1962, also in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. The Manningham-Buller baronetcy, of Dilhorne in the County of Stafford, was created in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom on 20 January 1866 for the first Viscount's great-grandfather Edward Buller-Yarde-Buller, who legally changed his name to Manningham-Buller the same year. James Buller (1717–1765)
James Buller (17 June 1717 – 30 April 1765) of Morval in Cornwall and of Downes and King's Nympton in Devon, was a Member of Parliament for East Looe in Cornwall (1741-47) and for the County of Cornwall (1748-1765). He was ancestor of the Viscounts Dilhorne and the Barons Churston and built the Palladian mansion Kings Nympton Park in Devon. John Mervyn Manningham-Buller, 2nd Viscount Dilhorne (28 February 1932 – 25 June 2022) was a British peer and barrister. Background and education Lord Dilhorne was the son of Reginald Manningham-Buller, 1st Viscount Dilhorne, and Lady Mary Lindsay, daughter of David Lindsay, 27th Earl of Crawford. His sister is Eliza Manningham-Buller, Baroness Manningham-Buller, the former head of MI5. He was educated at Eton and the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst. Dilhorne was 6 foot 9 inches tall. Sir Mervyn Edward Manningham-Buller, 3rd Baronet (16 January, 1876 – 22 August, 1956) was a British Conservative politician and Member of Parliament (MP). Family His parents were Major-General Edmund Manningham-Buller and Lady Anne Coke. He married Lilah Constance Cavendish, daughter of Major-General Charles Cavendish, 3rd Baron Chesham and Lady Beatrice Constance Grosvenor, on 8 July 1903. Their children included Reginald Manningham-Buller, who served as Attorney-General. Military career Manningham-Buller was commissioned as a second lieutenant in The Rifle Brigade on 9 October 1895, and was promoted to lieutenant on 25 May 1898, and to captain on 18 March 1901.
