Virginia Prentiss
Daphne Virginia Prentiss, also known as "Jennie", "Jenny", or "Mammy Jenny" (c. 1832–November 27, 1922) was an African-American woman who was the nanny of the writer Jack London and a significant figure in his life. She was also a notable community leader through her work with organisations such as the Federated Negro Woman's Club''.'' Early life Prentiss was born into slavery on a plantation in Tennessee around 1832. Baptized Virginia, she was separated from her parents during a sale, and their identities are unknown, other than that her mother was from North Carolina. She was purchased by a John Parker, who owned a plantation near Nashville, and she was forced to be the servant and companion to his youngest daughter. She learned to read and write alongside Parker's daughter and as a teenager learnt domestic skills from Mrs. Parker. Mountain View Cemetery (Oakland, California)
The Mountain View Cemetery is a rural cemetery in Oakland, California, United States. It was established in 1863 by a group of East Bay pioneers under the California Rural Cemetery Act of 1859. The association they formed still operates the cemetery today. Mountain View was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, the landscape architect who also designed New York City's Central Park, Brooklyn’s Prospect Park, and much of UC Berkeley and Stanford University. Many of California's important historical figures, drawn by Olmsted's reputation, are buried here. There are many grandiose crypts in tribute to the wealthy, especially along the ridge section with a view across the Bay to the San Francisco skyline, known as "Millionaires' Row". Juan Díaz Canales
Juan Díaz Canales is a Spanish comics artist and an animation, animated film director, known as the co-creator of ''Blacksad''. Biography At an early age, Juan Díaz Canales became interested in comics and their creation, which progressed and broadened out to include animated films. At the age of 18, he entered a school for animation. In 1996 he founded, together with three other artists, a company called Tridente Animation. Through this, he has worked with European and American companies, providing plots and scripts for comics and animation films, as well as directing animated television series and animation movies. During this period he met Juanjo Guarnido, with whom Canales decided to create comics based around a private investigator, Blacksad.
