Violette Impellizzeri
Violette Impellizzeri (born 15 August 1977 in Palermo), is an Italian astronomer, astrophysicist, and professor. Biography Violette Impellizzeri lived in Saronno in the Province of Varese. Later her family moved to Alcamo, Sicily where she attended primary and secondary school. She then moved with her family to Karlsruhe, Germany for her father to work as a teacher. She completed her studies at the European School of Karlsruhe, where she earned her European baccalaureate. In 1995, she entered the University of Bristol. She obtained a master in Physics and attained a doctorate in astrophysics at the '' Max Planck Institute für Radioastronomie'' in Bonn. Impellizzeri moved to the United States as a postdoctoral researcher in Charlottesville, Virginia working for three years at the NRAO (National Radio Astronomy Observatory) researching physical cosmology and the megamaser (MCP). A radio telescope is a specialized antenna and radio receiver used to detect radio waves from astronomical radio sources in the sky. Radio telescopes are the main observing instrument used in radio astronomy, which studies the radio frequency portion of the electromagnetic spectrum emitted by astronomical objects, just as optical telescopes are the main observing instrument used in traditional optical astronomy which studies the light wave portion of the spectrum coming from astronomical objects. Atacama Large Millimeter Array
The Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) is an astronomical interferometer of 66 radio telescopes in the Atacama Desert of northern Chile, which observe electromagnetic radiation at millimeter and submillimeter wavelengths. Maser
A maser (, an acronym for microwave amplification by stimulated emission of radiation) is a device that produces coherent electromagnetic waves through amplification by stimulated emission. The first maser was built by Charles H. Townes, James P. Gordon, and Herbert J. Zeiger at Columbia University in 1953.
