Violet Wong
Violet Wong (, 19161948) was a Chinese actress. Born in Guangdong, she began singing and dancing as a child, catching the attention of General Chiang Kai-shek. She made her feature film debut in ''Two Stars in the Milky Way'' (1931), where she portrayed a young woman who became a movie star. Biography Wong was born in Guangdong 1916. She joined the Bright Moon Song and Dance Troupe, headed by Li Jinhui, at a young age. She was soon recognized for her dancing skills, being deemed a "queen of southern songs and dances". She performed in Guangdong for General Chiang Kai-shek and Wang Jingwei in 1926 prior to the launch of the Northern Expedition, being invited to banquets and gaining praise for her performance. She was rewarded by Chiang with a gold watch, as well as a promise that she could perform in Beijing should the National Revolutionary Army capture the city. ''Two Stars in the Milky Way'' ( zh, s=银汉双星, t=銀漢雙星, p=Yínhàn Shuāngxīng), also translated ''Two Stars on the Silver Screen'' and known as ''An Actor and an Actress'', is a 1931 film directed by Shi Dongshan for the United Photoplay Service (UPS). Based on the eponymous novel by Zhang Henshui, it stars Violet Wong as a country girl who, after being discovered by the Milky Way Film Company, rises to stardom through a Cantonese opera. She begins a romance with her co-star, portrayed by Jin Yan, who pushes her aside after being reminded of his filial piety, filial obligations. The United Photoplay Service Company () was one of the three dominant production company, production companies based in Shanghai, China during the 1930s, the other two being the Mingxing Film Company and the Tianyi Film Company, the forerunner of the Hong Kong–based Shaw Brothers Studio. Tianyi Film Company
Tianyi Film Company (), also called Unique Film Productions, was one of the "big three" film production companies in pre-Second World War Republic of China. Founded in Shanghai in 1925 by the Shaw (Shao) brothers led by Runje Shaw (Shao Zuiweng), the company also established operations in Malaya and Hong Kong. Yang Naimei (; 1904 – December 27, 1960) was an actress of China's silent film era. She starred in such well-received films as '' The Soul of Yuli'' (1924), '' Lonely Orchid'' (1926), '' Spring Dream by the Lakeside'' (1927) and '' The Young Mistress' Fan'' (1928). Wang Hanlun (, 190317August 1978), also known as Helen Wang, was a Chinese actress active primarily between 1923 and 1930.
