Village College
The village college is an institution specific to Cambridgeshire, England, including the Peterborough unitary authority area. It caters for the education of 11- to 16-year-olds during the day, and provides educational and leisure facilities to the wider community out of school hours. Village colleges were the brainchild of Henry Morris, the then Chief Education Officer for Cambridgeshire, who had a vision of a school that would serve the whole community, stem migration from the countryside to the towns, and provide a decent education to pupils who had previously only been served by the upper years of elementary schools. His original plan was that the site of the college would also be home to the village's other public services. The first, Sawston Village College, opened in 1930 with Bottisham, Linton, and Bassingbourn following a few years later. Cottenham Village College
Cottenham Village College is an academy school located in Cottenham, Cambridgeshire, England. The school offers secondary education to pupils from the surrounding area. In addition, as part of Cambridgeshire's village college structure, Cottenham offers Adult education courses and leisure facilities for the local community. The school has a capacity of 900 pupils. Cottenham Village College and The Centre School were run by the Cottenham Academy Trust. However, the Trust was then taken over by the Astrea Academy Trust based in Sheffield. Cottenham Village College primarily serves 11–16 year olds in the villages of Cottenham, Waterbeach and Willingham. Harry Rée
Harry Alfred Rée, DSO, OBE (15 October 1914 – 17 May 1991) was a British educationist and wartime member of the Special Operations Executive. Of the more than 400 SOE agents who worked in France during World War II, M.R.D. Foot, the official historian of the SOE in France, named Rée as one of the half-dozen best male agents. Harry Rée was born in England, the son of Dr. Alfred Rée, a chemist who was from a Danish Jewish family, and Lavinia Elisabeth Dimmick, the American-born great granddaughter of chemist and industrialist Eleuthère Irénée du Pont. He was educated at Shrewsbury School, St John's College, Cambridge, and the Institute of Education, University of London. Cambourne Village College is a mixed secondary school located in Cambourne, Cambridgeshire, England. It is a free school that opened in 2013, and is part of a federation with Comberton Village College operating within the Cam Academy Trust. Cambourne Village College had an initial intake of Year 7 pupils (11- and 12-year-olds) in September 2013, but expanded each year with a new Year 7 intake to become a full secondary school. Burwell is a village and civil parish in Cambridgeshire, England, some 10 miles (16 km) north-east of Cambridge. It lies on the south-east Fen Edge, edge of the Fens. Gamlingay is a village and civil parish in the South Cambridgeshire district of Cambridgeshire, England, about west southwest of Cambridge. The 2011 census gives the village's population as 3,247 and the civil parish's as 3,568. In addition to Gamlingay village, the parish includes the outlying areas of Gamlingay Cinques, Gamlingay Great Heath and Little Heath. Witchford
Witchford is a village and civil parish about west of Ely, Cambridgeshire, England. The 2011 Census recorded the parish's population as 2,385. History Anglo-Saxon cemetery When the site of RAF Witchford was being cleared a bulldozer driver found an Anglo-Saxon pagan cemetery on the site. The bulldozer unearthed and crushed about 30 skeletons. Little archaeological work could be undertaken but some artefacts were recovered, which T. C. Lethbridge stated to be consistent with the period AD 450–650. More recent survey work has found Iron Age and Roman domestic and other remains. An Anglo-Saxon cemetery was not found at that time, leading to the conclusion that this was not the site of the lost village of Cratendune.
