Villablino
Villablino (; Leonese: ''Vitsablinu'') is a municipality located in the Laciana comarca of the province of León in the autonomous community of Castile and León, Spain. According to the 2011 Census, the municipality had a population of 10,353 inhabitants. It has the largest commercial, economic and social center of Northwest province, and it is one of the judicial districts in the province of León. Geography Villablino is a mining town in the northern part of the Province of León and is situated on the southern slopes of the Cantabrian Mountains which form the border with the Province of Asturias. To the north lies Cangas del Narcea, the largest and oldest municipality in the Province of Asturias, and to the northeast lies Somiedo, also in Asturias. Laciana
Laciana, ''Tsaciana'' in Leonese language, is a comarca in the province of León, Spain. It had 11,904 inhabitants in 2005. The rivers of this comarca flow towards the Atlantic Ocean. Local people speak a certain variant of the Leonese language known as '' Patsuezo''. Many areas in Laciana were degraded in the past by open-pit mining and mining-related contamination. This comarca was declared a Biosphere Reserve in 2003. Language The predominant language is Castilian which coexists with the native Leon variant known as the Patsuezu language. Despite being endangered, there are various efforts being made to revitalize the traditional dialect of the area. A book entitled ''Street Cries of the Villablino Festivals'' by Emilce Núñez was written about these efforts. The Sil is a river in León ( Castile and León) and Galicia, Spain, a tributary of the Miño. Its total length is . The source of the Sil is in the Cantabrian Mountains in the Leonese town of Villablino. It flows through the provinces of León and Ourense. The largest city on the Sil is Ponferrada (León). The Sil flows into the Miño upstream from Ourense. Mouth The river joins the Miño river in Os Peares, in the province of Ourense. Villabandin
Villabandín is a small hamlet, part of 15 or so that lead approximately 100 kilometers North-West from the city of León towards Villablino in Castile and León in north western Spain. It is made up of two parts with less than five residents living in one while the major part of the hamlet has a collection of houses, barns, a church, a bar (which remains shut for most of the year), and a dance hall that are cut through by a river with two bridges on opposing sides. The hamlet lies between two valleys at an altitude of over 1,000 metres above sea level. The population is thought to be less than 10 people, all over the age of 65. History The area where the hamlet lies is believed to have been invaded by the Moors. At the beginning of the twentieth century, fire caused destruction of much of the hamlet and it was renovated in 1902. The Autovía A-66 is a major highway in western Spain, part of the European route E803. The road is an upgrade of the N-630 which is being undertaken section by section. The route roughly corresponds to the ancient Roman ' Silver Route' connecting the cities of Mérida and Astorga. The final section of road south of Benavente is under construction as of October 2013 with completion anticipated in 2015. Route Autovía A-66 starts at Seville with a junction with the Autovía A-49.
