The National Giuseppe Verdi Museum () is a music museum in Busseto, Province of Parma, Italy. It is dedicated to Giuseppe Verdi and is housed at the Renaissance Villa Pallavicino. The museum was inaugurated on 10 October 2009 on the 196th anniversary of Verdi's birth in Busseto. The museum follows the historical path of the works of Verdi and has arranged 27 exhibition spaces based on the 27 works of the composer. Busseto ( Bussetano: ; Parmigiano: ) is a ''comune'' in the province of Parma, in Emilia-Romagna in Northern Italy with about inhabitants. Its history is quite well documented back to the 10th century, and for almost five hundred years it was the capital of Stato Pallavicino, which eventually became part of the Duchy of Parma. The town is about south of Cremona in Lombardy. Etymology The first written sources give the name as "Buxetum" in the early twelfth century. As such it appears the town's name is cognate with: *buxus as in common box, buxus sempervirens, cognate with places such as Bushey; or *busetum – a shott, fold or pen (fenced clearing) for oxen, cognate with places such as Oxpens. Teatro Giuseppe Verdi (the Giuseppe Verdi Theatre) is a small opera house located in a wing of the Rocca dei Marchesi Pallavicino on the Piazza Giuseppe Verdi in Busseto, Italy, a town closely associated with the life of the opera composer, Giuseppe Verdi. From the 13th century, the “rocca” or “fortress” was the family's palace; it is now the city hall after being acquired by the municipality in 1856. The theatre opened on 15 August 1868 and seats 300. Prior to 1856, a theatre existed in the same location, and while plans to build a new one were begun in 1845, nothing happened until the municipality took over. Villa Verdi is the estate house that composer Giuseppe Verdi ordered built in 1848 on farmland he had owned for four years and where he lived from that year until the end of his life. It is in the village of Sant'Agata (Villanova sull'Arda), Sant'Agata 3.5 km north of the town of Busseto, which itself lies 4.5 km west-north-west of the tiny village of Le Roncole, where Verdi was born.
