Viktor Schauman
Viktor Schauman (c. 1822 – 3 February 1872) was a pharmacist, notable business person, and politician from Jakobstad, as well as a member of the noble Schauman family. Wilhelm Schauman
Wilhelm Schauman (born November 8, 1857, in Jakobstad) was a prominent Finnish-Swedish industrialist and member of the noble Schauman family. He is best known as the founder of Finland's first veneer factory and for his significant contributions to the chicory, sugar, sawmill, and tobacco industries. He died on November 14, 1911, in Berlin. A paper and pulp mill was also built in Jakobstad and remains the largest factory in the town. Today, it is owned by UPM-Kymmene following a merger in 1988. Biography Wilhelm Schauman was born into an influential family, the son of pharmacist Victor Leonard Schauman and Elisabet (Elise) Vilhelmina Ekelund. Ossian Schauman
Julius Ossian Schauman (30 March 1862 – 6 February 1922) was one of the founders of the Swedish-speaking non-governmental organization ''Folkhälsan'', which provides social welfare and health care services in Finland. He was also the younger brother of Wilhelm Schauman. Life Ossian Schauman was born on 30 March 1862 in Jakobstad to the pharmacist and businessman Victor Schauman and his wife Elise Wilhelmina Schauman (née Ekelund), who had 13 children in total. The father died of heart failure before the age of 50, when Ossian Schauman was only 10 years old. There seems to have been a genetic heart defect running in the family, since both Ossian Schauman and several of his brothers also died before they had turned 60 years old. Schauman
The Schauman family is a Swedish- Finnish noble family of German origin, introduced in both the Swedish House of Nobility and the Finnish House of Nobility. Originally known as a family of high-ranking soldiers, since the 1800s its representatives have become known in numerous other fields. History The family is from the Baltic countries and moved to Finland at the end of the 1600s. It is considered to be from the nobility of Courland. However, according to an alternative theory the roots of the family could be in Kurpfalz, Germany, in which in 1596 a family with the same name was ennobled. Samfundet Folkhälsan, or in short Folkhälsan (literally "Public Health"), is a non-governmental organization based in Finland. It is active in advocating social welfare and health care for the Swedish speakers of Finland. The organization carries out scientific research and informs and counsels in order to promote health and good quality of life. Folkhälsan’s activities include assistance, support, education, and care, being present at every stage of life. Founded in 1921, Folkhälsan employs today approximately 1,400 people.
