Vijay Rupani
Vijay Ramniklal Rupani (2 August 1956 – 12 June 2025) was an Indian politician who served as the chief minister of Gujarat from 2016 to 2021. He was a representative in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly for the Rajkot West constituency from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He died in the Air India Flight 171 aviation accident. Early life and student politics Vijay Rupani was born on 2 August 1956, in Rangoon, Rangoon Division, Burma, to a Gujarati Sthanakwasi Jain Bania family. He was the seventh and youngest son of the couple. In 1960, his family moved to Rajkot, Gujarat, India, due to political instability in Burma. His father, Rasiklal Rupani, who had been a grain merchant in Burma, became a trader of ball bearings in Rajkot. Uday Kangad
Uday Kangad (born 1972) is an Indian politician from Gujarat. He is a member of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly from Rajkot East Assembly constituency in Rajkot district. He won the 2022 Gujarat Legislative Assembly election representing the Bharatiya Janata Party. Early life and education Kangad is from Rajkot, Gujarat. He is the son of Pratapbhai Laxmanbhai Kangad. He studied Class 9 at Murlidhar High School, Rajkot and passed the examinations in 1987. Career Kangad served as mayor of Rajkot. Air India Flight 171 was a regularly scheduled international Air India flight from Ahmedabad Airport to London Gatwick Airport. On 12 June 2025, at 13:38 IST, the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner operating the flight crashed shortly after takeoff into the hostel block of B. J. Medical College in the Meghaninagar neighbourhood of Ahmedabad. The aircraft was carrying 230 passengers and 12 crew members. Of the 242 people on board, only a single passenger survived the crash. At least 38 people on the ground were also killed. The crash marked the first full hull loss of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and the first with fatalities.
