Star Vijay is an Indian Tamil language general entertainment pay television channel owned by JioStar, a joint venture between Viacom18 and Disney India. The channel telecasts programmes such as serials, reality shows & Tamil films. History The channel was first launched by N. P. V. Ramasamy Udayar on 24 November 1994, as Golden Eagle Communication (GEC). That same year it applied for the line-up of Singapore Cable Vision becoming the first Tamil channel on offer. United Breweries Group acquired the channel in 1995 and renamed it as Vijay TV. The UTV Group bought the controlling interest from United Breweries Group in 1999 for million. ''Subramaniapuram'' is a 2008 Indian Tamil-language action film written, produced, and directed by Sasikumar. Sasikumar cast then relatively new actors Jai, Swathi, Samuthirakani, Ganja Karuppu, and himself in pivotal roles. The film also marked Swathi's Tamil film debut. The music was composed by James Vasanthan with cinematography by S. R. Kathir and editing by Raja Mohammad. The film released on 4 July 2008. Although the film was low-budget, it received critical acclaim for its original script, direction, screenplay, editing, fresh music, accurate sets, and costumes to resurrect Madurai from the 1980s. Shot in 85 days, it became one of the biggest commercial successes of the year. ''Vaaranam Aayiram'' () is a 2008 Indian Tamil-language action drama film written and directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon and produced by V. Ravichandran of Aascar Films. The film stars Suriya in the main dual lead role as father and son alongside Simran, Sameera Reddy (in her Tamil debut) and Ramya. The film features music composed by Harris Jayaraj, making ''Vaaranam Aayiram'' his last project with Menon before the formal break-up of their partnership, until they worked together again in '' Yennai Arindhaal'' (2015).
